A Red Orchid Theatre (AROT) announces A Day at the Races!, a benefit for the Company's upcoming production of Simpatico by Sam Shepard in celebration of the 20th Anniversary Season. The intimate event will be held in the Secretariat Suite at Arlington Park, 2200 W. Euclid Avenue in Arlington Heights, today, May 11 from noon to 4:00PM.

The Old Globe presents the West Coast Premiere of Bekah Brunstetter's quirky and tender comedy Be a Good Little Widow. Directed by Hal Brooks, Be a Good Little Widow will run tonight, May 11 - June 9, 2013 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad PrebysTheatre Center. Preview performances run tonight, May 11 - May 15. Opening night is Thursday, May 16 at 8:00 p.m. Meet the cast in the photos below!

Berkshire Playwrights Lab will present the Berkshire Playwrights Lab Sixth Season Multi-Media Gala Celebration on Friday, June 7 at 7:30pm and staged readings of new plays on Wednesdays, July 10, July 24, August 7, and August 21 at 7:30pm at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center (14 Castle Street, Great Barrington, Mass.). The company will also present its first full workshop production, Anna Ziegler's Life Science, June 19 through June 30 (press opening June 21), Wednesdays through Saturdays at8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00pm, with the exception of the Saturday, June 22 performance, which will begin at 9:30pm at Bard College at Simon's Rock Daniel Arts Center (84 Alford Road, Great Barrington, Mass.).

Producers Darren Bagert, Dan Shaheen, and Ted Snowdon have announced that the hit comedy Buyer & Cellar, starring Michael Urie ('Ugly Betty'), written by Jonathan Tolins, and directed by Stephen Brackett, will transfer to the Barrow Street Theatre for a ten-week engagement beginning Tuesday, June 18, at 7:30pm and opening Monday, June 24. Tickets go on sale today.

Joseph Stern and The Matrix Theatre Company present the West Coast premiere of a brave, chilling and very funny new work by Jackie Sibblies Drury."We Are Proud to Present a Presentation About the Herero of Namibia, Formerly Known as South-West Africa, From the German Sudwestafrika, Between the Years 1884-1915" opens on June 8.

Seattle Repertory Theatre's full 2013-2014 season was announced today by Artistic Director Jerry Manning. The new season features three world premieres by Northwest writers, two Broadway hits, and the addition of an American classic into the theatre's repertoire. The season will run from September 2013-June 2014.

Born and abandoned in the bathroom of a fast food restaurant, Bob travels across America determined to become a 'great' man. The Echo Theater Company presents the Los Angeles premiere of Peter Sinn Nachtrieb's hilarious, award-winning comedy, BOB: A Life in Five Acts. Echo artistic director Chris Fieldshelms the limited 4-week run, June 8 through June 30 at Atwater Village Theatre.

On April 29th at New York City's Pierre Hotel, the National Corporate Theatre Fund (NCTF) honored Vanessa Williams, American Express and five resident theatres celebrating their 50th anniversary - Actors Theatre of Louisville, Guthrie Theater, Hartford Stage, Seattle Repertory Theatre and Trinity Repertory Company - at NCTF's annual Chairman's Awards Gala. They just don't make good door slammer farces like they used to. Perhaps we've lost the sensibilities to come up with new ideas that make these tales of mistaken identity, concealed trysts and ridiculous characters funny. But luckily we still have old chestnuts like "Boeing Boeing", currently playing at the Seattle Rep, and people like director Allison Narver who understand what it takes to bring these tales to life and make them gut-bustingly funny.
