Legendary theatrical sound designer Abe Jacob will be honored for his pioneering career achievements at the Live Design Awards on Monday, June 13 in New York. Another legendary icon, Chita Rivera, will present the award to Jacob, whom she has known since the original Broadway production of CHICAGO (1975).
It seems everybody wants to do the Time Warp! Thanks to overwhelming interest and demand, Cygnet Theatre has announced a 5-show extension of the wildly popular Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show. Five additional performances have been added to the schedule to give audiences more options to enjoy this naughty, raw, fun, satirical tribute to the science fiction and B-list horror movies of the 20th century. These two plays turned Coward into an overnight sensation, one light and madcap, the other dark and shocking. Written at the same time, they represent opposite sides of Coward's talent. Cygnet Theatre is pleased to announce a Concert Staged-Reading of the Tony Award-winning musical EVITA, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. The two-night-only performance, presented on Monday, August 3rd, and Tuesday, August 4th at 7 pm at Cygnet Theatre in Old Town, will feature some of San Diego's brightest musical theatre stars.
Cygnet Theatre will kick off its 13th season in July as director Sean Murray mounts the San Diego Premiere of Dogfight, a romantic and comic musical adaptation of the 1991 movie with River Phoenix and Lili Taylor. Winner of the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical in 2013, Dogfight represents the new generation of voices in musical theatre creation. The production runs July 16 - August 23. Opening night for media is July 25.
