Camille A. Brown & Dancers, notably recognized for their introspective approach to cultural themes and socio-political dialogues, kicked off its 2015-2016 season tour with the world premiere of their newest work entitled BLACK GIRL: Linguistic Play for a week-long engagement at The Joyce Theater, running through September 27. Choreographed by Bessie Award and Doris Duke Artist award-winning choreographer Camille A. Brown, and performed by an all-female cast featuring live music by composers Scott Patterson (piano) and Tracy Wormworth (electric bass), this piece reveals the complexity of carving out a self-defined identity as a black female in urban America. Moderated conversations with Mark Anthony Neal and Dream Hampton engage audiences following each performance in a 'second-act' dialogue around the cultural and universal themes presented in the choreography.

Camille A. Brown & Dancers, recognized for its introspective approach to cultural themes through visceral movement and socio-political dialogues, announces its 2015-2016 Season tour. Commencing with the world premiere of Bessie and Doris Duke award-winning choreographer Camille A. Brown's BLACK GIRL: Linguistic Play at New York's Joyce Theater, the company will also tour to 10 venues and cities across the nation, including Chicago, Los Angeles, and Miami. Performances will feature original live music by composers Scott Patterson (piano) and Tracy Wormworth (electric bass), and a moderated dialogue with audiences around the cultural and universal themes presented by the Company's repertory. Mark Anthony Neal and dream hampton are among the moderators for the Joyce Theater. The season will also include various residencies, Black Girl Spectrum workshops and panel discussions.

Joyce Theater to Open Fall Season with Camille A. Brown & Dancers

The Joyce Theater Foundation, Linda Shelton Executive Director, proudly kicks-off its 2015 fall season on September 22 with a world premiere by Camille A. Brown & Dancers. The work, BLACK GIRL: Linguistic Play, will be performed by an all-female cast during the company's week-long engagement at The Joyce, which runs through September 27. Tickets are $10-$40 and can be purchased through JoyceCharge online at www.joyce.org or by calling 212-242-0800. Please note: ticket prices are subject to change. The Joyce Theater is located at 175 Eighth Avenue at 19th Street.

A special Memorial Concert for Pete and Toshi Seeger on July 20 will be followed by the official opening concert on July 23 with Larry Harlow's Hommy: A Latin Opera, the landmark work's first performance in 40 years. The company is to visit Boston, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia in March and April to perform Camille A. Brown's acclaimed 2013 Mr. TOL E. RAncE, as well as other repertory favorites. The company will be presented by World Music/CRASHarts at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston on March 14-15, The Atlas in Washington D.C. onApril 5-6, and Painted Bride Arts Center in Philadelphia on April 11-12. D.C and Philadelphia performances will feature the full version of Mr. TOL E.
