Kalamazoo is represented in large numbers and with great pride in The Big Apple. The Kalamazoo shootings left people across the country in shock - our friends, former students, and family in New York City were no exception. In response, several WMU Theatre alums and Kalamazoo natives who now reside in NYC are coming together to produce KALAMAZOO STRONG: A BENEFIT CABARET The event will be held Monday, March 7th at 9:30pm in the Laurie Beechman Theatre in Manhattan.
Scott Burkell's updated version of HO HO HUMBUG packs laughs and heartwarming moments in his most recent trimmed down version of this original Christmas comedy. Stark Naked produced the World Premiere last year and yielded mixed reviews. I wanted to see last year's performance of HO HO HUMBUG, but am now glad I waited for this one-act 90-minute version directed by Stark Naked Artistic Directors Kim Tobin-Lehl and Philip Lehl. The show opened on December 3rd and performances will run through December 23, 2015.
What would you do if you found an Olsen twin in your dumpster? What happens when 7 grown men are forced, because of the astronomical rents in Manhattan, to live together in a small one bedroom apartment? MARY-KATE and the SEVEN, based loosely on the story of Snow White and her 7 dwarfs, looks at the ever widening gulf between the 'haves' and the 'have nots' in modern day America and the extremes of celebrity. One of the Olsen twins is hungry for fame while the other is just hungry... for a cookie. When the 7 men find the aforementioned Olsen twin in their dumpster, is she perhaps their ticket out of the hellish life they are living? Could they, should they, ransom her? And if they do, will her sister want her back or is she more valuable in terms of celebrity if she is missing or better yet, dead? How much do we really need to be happy?
Back by popular demand, Stark Naked Theatre spreads a hearty dose of holiday cheer with a new 90-minute, no-intermission version of Ho Ho Humbug that is even faster and funnier than before.
Philip Lehl and Kim Tobin-Lehl, co-Artistic Directors of Stark Naked Theatre Company, are proud to announce the exciting line-up of plays selected for the theatre's fifth season.
Letters are flying, and this cast sure has a way with words! TUTS Underground, in association with Third Coast Creative, presents LMNOP - A New Muzical, through April 19 in Zilkha Hall at The Hobby Center. Chaos arises when letters begin to fall from a town monument and government officials ban them one by one. The community depends on the strength of a determined teenage girl to fight for their freedom of speech. This unique musical is part romance, part clever word game and part adult fable that reminds us of how precious our liberties are and how important it is to have the courage to stand up for what we believe.
Tyce Green and Holland Vavra are town for the show and their ADHD gets the best of them backstage. Catch them running around, messing with props, and interviewing castmates in an effort to understand the plot of LMNOP... because neither of them learned their lines. Click below for Episode Five!

I talk to two-man creative team Scott Burkell (book and lyrics) and Paul Loesel (music). We discuss their struggle with the tyranny of the alphabet and LMNOP, A NEW MUZICAL.
