New Ohio Theatre has announced that To Keep The Light, Erica Fae's multiple award-winning feature length historical drama, will open the first annual New York Indie Theatre Film Festival, showcasing features, shorts, music videos, and web series created by theatre artists branching out into recorded media. To Keep The Light will screen on January 17, 2017; the festival continues through January 21.

In its 25-year history, New Georges has brought forth an unprecedented generation of women playwrights and directors, providing them with steady artistic support and first or career-transforming productions in New York City. New Georges will celebrate its anniversary season with the World Premiere of Hilary Bettis' Alligator, directed by Elena Araoz, presented in collaboration with The Sol Project this fall, and of Sheila Callaghan and Daniella Topol's collaboratively-created Water at 3LD Art & Technology Center in June of 2017 as part of Water City, a multi-disciplinary art event.

New Georges (Susan Bernfield, Producing Artistic Director; Sarah Cameron Sunde, Deputy Artistic Director; Jaynie Saunders Tiller, Managing Director) will present workshop presentations of new plays by Jam artists Dipika Guha (The Architecture of Becoming with Women's Project), Mary Elizabeth Hamilton (current member of EST's Youngblood), and Anna Moench (The Pillow Book at 59E59; Gormanzee at The Flea) as part of The New Georges Jam On Toast, a brand-new play festival featuring work by The New Georges Jam, a 'performance gym' for early-career female playwrights and directors founded in 2010 by Lucy Alibar, Jess Chayes, and Portia Krieger. The works in progress will be directed by Sarah Krohn (Victor Frange Presents Gas at Incubator Arts Project; 2013 Boris Sagal Fellow at Williamstown Theatre Festival), Pirronne Yousefzadeh (QVC with Partial Comfort; The Tenant with Woodshed Collective), and Adrienne Campbell-Holt (Colt Coeur's Fish Eye at HERE; Missed Connections with Ars Nova). The festival will also feature cabaret-style pieces and special presentations by Sofia Alvarez (Between Us Chickens at South Coast Rep), Eliza Bent (Blue Wizard/Black Wizard at Incubator Arts Project; The Hotel Colors at The Bushwick Starr), Mary Birnbaum (Artistic Director of art.party.theater.company), Katie Brook (She Is King at Dixon Place; American Realism at The Invisible Dog), Meghan Finn (Take Me Home with Incubator Arts Project/3LD; Erin Courtney's The Service Road; Mac Wellman's AFAR at Dixon Place), Morgan Gould (co-creator of Young Jean Lee's Untitled Feminist Show),Caroline V. Target Margin Theater begins the new year with the launching of the new training program the Institute for Collaborative Theater Making, that will be a place where selected Fellows challenge themselves and the form of theater, ask what theater can be, and fearlessly embrace surprising and unexpected answers. The ultimate goal of the TMT Institute is to feed the growth of vibrant emerging artists, and enrich and challenge the culture of making theater.
On Sunday, September 22 New Georges held their BIG Benefit at Seamen's House, a private townhouse in Chelsea. The fundraiser featured a special performance by Eisa Davis and short plays and songs written specifically for the event by Laura Eason, Boo Killebrew, Julie Kramer, Rachel Peters and Charise Castro Smith, featuring Heidi Schreck, Maria-Christina Oliveras, Amy Wilson, Stephanie Wright Thompson, Eric Clem and others. Casting will be announced on Friday, February 22. Tickets will go on sale Friday, March 1.
