Village Theatre's 16th Annual Village Originals Festival of New Musicals

Well it may have been hotter than blazes this past weekend but I managed to spend the weekend inside at one of my favorite events of the year, The Village Theatre Village Originals Festival of New Musicals. They presented concert stagings of five musicals still in the works. It's a great opportunity for the authors to get to see their shows in front of an audience and for us to get a sneak peak at amazing musical theater to come. Now as they are still being workshopped I can't really review any of them but I can tell you what I saw.

BWW Review: Café Nordo's TO SAVOR TOMORROW Flies High with Laughs

Ladies and Gentlemen, please fasten your seatbelts, put your tray tables and seat backs in the upright position and hang on as Cafe Nordo presents an evening of fun and food with their 60's spy send up, "To Savor Tomorrow". And as usual with the Cafe Nordo shows, if the laughs weren't enough for you then the delectable food will be.

Cafe Nordo to Present TO SAVOR TOMORROW

? Cafe Nordo takes flight with To Savor Tomorrow, an immersive comedy that parodies the 007 spy genre, set in the airplane lounge of a swank 1960's Boeing Stratocruiser with craft-cocktails and retro-modernist cuisine woven into the experience.

BWW Review: AN OAK TREE Comes to Life While SEAGULLs Bemoan It at the Seattle Fringe Festival

A play where only half the cast knows the story and a trio of snarky seagulls who are rife with tragedy. These are just a few of the offerings from the 2016 Seattle Fringe Festival performing all over town this weekend and next. Now I wasn't able to catch everything this weekend and next week I'll be bringing you some fantastic goings on in New York but for now I wanted to let you in on the few shows I did see.

BWW Review: Static but Still Fun EMMA at Book-It Repertory

It's been 200 years since Jane Austen's incorrigible matchmaker "Emma" first came on the scene in print and since has spawned film versions, adaptations and has never been out of print since its release. And while the current adaptation from Book-It Repertory Theatre keeps the mischievousness and attitudes alive, at times if feels a little too static making this romp drone on a bit.

BWW Reviews: DON GIOVANNI: A NEW MUSICAL at Seattle Musical Theatre

Seattle Musical Theatre is presenting their inaugural "Second Season" production with a brand new musical rendition of Mozart's opera of the same name with "Don Giovanni: A New Musical" in conjunction with Cornish College's student interest group Fruition Productions. And while there were glimmers of potential on stage what it ultimately amounted to was a few pretty voices but a lot of inexperienced storytelling.
