SPT to Present Seattle Premiere of EDITH CAN SHOOT THINGS AND HIT THEM at Bathhouse Theater, 3/29-4/21

SPT presents the Seattle Premiere of Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them by Princess Grace Award for Playwriting recipient and the Harold and Mimi Steinberg ATCA New Play Award Finalist A. Rey Pamatmat, running March 29-April 21, 2013 at the historic Bathhouse Theater on Green Lake.

After being all but abandoned by their widower father, Filipino-American teenagers Edith and Kenny form a latchkey family that becomes all the more unconventional when Kenny develops romantic feelings for his classmate, Benji. The strength of their fragile bond is challenged as the adult world conspires to pull the three apart.

"I first saw Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them in its world premiere production at the 2011 Humana Festival of New American Plays," says Director David Gassner. "It was unquestionably the hit of that year's festival, and was beloved both for its humor, and for its profound gentleness. It's about a trio of young outsiders who find themselves no longer welcome in their own families. Two gay teens on the edge of manhood learn from a 12-year-old girl what it means to be adults. Ultimately, all three kids learn to stand up to the world and claim their lives."

"The story of Edith is so fresh, so compelling, and the characters familiar and yet so different from others we've ever met," says SPT Artistic Director, Shana Bestock. "I admire them and ache for them. We want to help them and protect them, and are angry with the adults who have let them down. At the same time, we cheer their resilience, and their capacity for an authentic and beautiful connection."

Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them features the acting talents of Sara Porkalob, Jose Abaoag, and Tim Smith-Stewart.

Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them is directed by David Gassner (SPT's The Happy Ones and BASH and Radial Theater Project's Beating Up Bachman), stage managed by Blair Feehan and features the design talents of Dan Schuy (Scenic Design), Amiya Brown (Lighting Design), Rob Witmer (Sound Design), K.D. Schill (Costume Design) and Cole Hornaday (Props).

With such an inspiring play guaranteed to touch a broad spectrum of the community, SPT is planning two lively and insightful post-show discussions involving the Edith cast and crew along with representatives from both the Filipino Community of Seattle (FCS) as well as the young writers from Edmond's Scriber Lake High School who shared their personal struggles in the book, We Are Absolutely Not Okay: Fourteen Stories By Teenagers Who are Picking Up the Pieces.
