But over the past five years Sam Adams has added the sight of shaky-armed competitors at bars across the country, holding one-liter glass steins of OctoberFest beer, to that list. Started in 2011, the Sam Adams Stein Hoisting Competition is comprised of local events at participating bars and restaurants across the U.S., and at larger Oktoberfest gatherings like the annual America's Oktoberfest event in Cincinnati. Competitors are required to hoist a one-liter glass stein filled with Samuel Adams OctoberFest, with a straight arm, for as long as possible. If you sip, spill, or bend your arm, you're out!

 The Britt Classical Festival, led by Music Director and Conductor Teddy Abrams, has announced a wide-ranging, adventurous series of concerts of contemporary and new music paired with core classical repertoire for its three-week 2015 season, beginning July 31. The programs include the world premiere of a folk song cycle written and performed by vocalist and songwriter Aoife O'Donovan and fiddler Jeremy Kittel alongside work by Charles Ives, George Antheil and Copland; performances of John Adams' Absolute Jest string quartet showcase with the Dover Quartet and Samuel Adams' recent work Radial Play; orchestral showpieces including Brahms' Symphony No. 2 and Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring; Teddy Abrams performing on piano and clarinet with his own Sixth Floor Trio, playing music from a variety of genres in a program alongside music by Samuel Barber and Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique; and composer Mason Bates on electronica in his popular work Mothership with the Britt Orchestra, on a program that features James Ehnes in Barber's Violin Concerto. The festival takes place in the Britt Pavilion, an intimate, beautiful outdoor 2,200-capacity amphitheater in the historic Gold Rush town of Jacksonville, Oregon, 17 miles from Ashland. This is Teddy Abrams' second season as the Britt Classical Festival's music director.

The 5th Annual Brew at the L.A. Zoo, one of summer's most popular events for guests 21 and over, returns on Friday, August 7, 2015, 7 to 11 pm, featuring an after-hours visit to the Zoo with beer samples from 55+ local craft and microbreweries and an eclectic music lineup including 'the best of the worst of the '80s' with The Spazmatics; The Noble Gasses surf band; The Black Canyon dance band; live karaoke with Casual Encounters; and something completely different from Der Burgermeister Boys, a German Polka band. New this year is a special VIP Lounge with complimentary food, including a bountiful buffet offering early 6 pm access, hors d'oeuvres, snacks, specialty cocktails and exclusive access to several breweries. Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas conducts the San Francisco Symphony (SFS)-currently celebrating their 20th season together-in two concerts at Carnegie Hall on Wednesday, November 19 at 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, November 20 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. The programs feature specialties of the orchestra and conductor and include Mahler's Symphony No. 7 in E Minor on November 19 and the New York premiere of American composer Samuel Adams's Drift and Providence; Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2 in G Minor, Op. 63 with soloist Gil Shaham; and Ravel's complete Daphnis et Chloe on November 20. The concerts are part of a seven-city US tour from November 12-22 that follows the release of their new recording, Masterpieces in Miniature, out on November 11 on SFS Media. The orchestra's recording of Mahler's Symphony No. 7 led by Mr. Tilson Thomas as part of their Mahler recording project won two Grammy Awards in 2007.
