The Off Broadway Palm Theatre presents Weekend Comedy playing now through February 22, 2020. This laugh-out-loud, yet heartwarming comedy, was written by Sam Bobrick and first presented in 1985.

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that author, playwright, television writer, and lyricist, Sam Bobrick, best known for creating the television series Saved By the Bell, has passed away after suffering a stoke. He was 87 years old.

It's a very busy weekend for theatre in the Midlands!

Encore Theatre District's current production, BAGGAGE, by Sam Bobrick, will play for one weekend, through Sunday December 2, 2018. The rom-com play, about two nutty characters who meet when their luggage is accidentally switched, has lots of laughs.

One of the newest community theatres in the area is the Encore Theatre District, which is about to open its second season. Its first show is a one-night only reprise performance of a staged reading of LYDIA, featuring last year's cast.

Struggling to pay the rent, Adam (Brian Patrick Roach) has put up a sign offering "Psychic Readings $25" to save himself from being thrown out on the street. And even though he has never had any psychic abilities nor done any type of reading before, several interesting characters show up, each offering decorating tips before paying the fee, expecting to find out something about themselves. From the beginning, it was pretty clear to me that the visitors would turn out to be characters being born in Adam's laptop, very stereotypical of the types of people they were playing. But it was easy to play along and watch the story in his mind play out onstage.

Sara Hastings is an unmarried lawyer in her mid-thirties, much too busy to get involved in romance. Her Aunt Martha has decided to take matters into her own hands and find her a husband in the Sam Bobrick comedy Getting Sara Married, the opening show in Hanover Little Theatre's 70th season.

After a highly successful '17 season, the Heather's artistic director Ward Smith announces the Heather's first production of 2018 with Sam Bobrick's comedy BAGGAGE. Two difficult and single people, Bradley and Phyllis, both trying to heal from their respective disappointing relationships, get their luggage mixed up at the airport. After a very disagreeable first encounter, the two decide to help each other get over their heartaches by forcing a friendship that eventually leads to the two discovering that while they may be too difficult for everyone else in the world, but they are perfect for each other. Throw in an analyst, a kooky female friend of Phyllis and direction from film, television and stage actor Ricky Wayne and you have the ingredients for this very funny comedy.

Who doesn't enjoy romance, laughter, and murder? The Academy Theatre is bringing all three to the stage with Murder at the Howard Johnson's by Ron Clark and Sam Bobrick. This show is a lighthearted, fast-paced suspense comedy directed by Rob Raissle.

Encore Theatre District will present the hilarious comedy, Beyond Therapy by Christopher Durang, as the final installment in their inaugural performance season. Beyond Therapy centers around two Manhattanites, Bruce and Prudence, who navigate their romantic lives with the help of their crazed therapists. Bruce is an eccentric bisexual man who likes to cry, which Prudence does not care for. The two go on a disastrous date before reporting back to their therapists-Stuart, who has repeatedly lusted after Prudence, and Charlotte, who attempts to guide Bruce by quoting from Peter Shaffer's play, Equus.

NEW YORK WATER, a comedy written by Sam Bobrick and directed by Howard Teichman, is being produced by Bill Froggatt and Howard Teichman for West Coast Jewish Theatre at the Pico Playhouse in West LA through December 17, 2017. The title refers to the quality of New York tap water for drinking: It's usually delicious, if you can get past the fact that rusty pipes sometimes impart to it an odd hue. The same applies to modern romantic involvements which start out great then change as you really get to know one another better or decide to travel in different directions.

The Major Market Tour: Having played to full comedy house crowds in Dallas and even in a burlesque house to kick off a major market tour as well as stopping for 3 nights at the historic Second City in Chicago, producers Bren Rapp and Joey Folsom have taken a scripted theatrical piece into nontraditional venues, taking advantage of the show's crossover appeal, a solo piece about the father of counterculture comedy, to go out and find new audiences for live theatre, where they are, in venues where they are already engaged in viewing live entertainment, and as an homage to the life and work of the subject, Lenny Bruce.

Next up at the Newport Playhouse & Cabaret Restaurant is Sam Bobrick's comedic romp The Crazy Time, directed by Playhouse favorite Rick Bagley of Middletown. Written by TV scribe andSaved by the Bell creator Sam Bobrick, The Crazy Time is a laugh-filled look at the joys and perils of May/December romances.
