We headed out on I95 but my mind superimposed Rt 17 in New York State. The signs advertising Medical Facilities, Orthopedic Surgeons, and The Hard Rock Casino became the Billboards for Grossingers, The Concord, and Browns Hotel. Freddie Roman, creator and star of Catskills on Broadway and comic superstar was going to receive the Footlighters Club's Shecky Greene Lifetime Achievement Award at Miami Shores Country Club. Getting such an award is usually a momentous solemn ritual, but when 7 of your fellow comedians will be toasting and honoring you the event becomes a room that is filled with the most amount of laughter on the planet.

The Mizner Park Cultural Center comes alive this season with a diverse schedule of comedy, concerts and critically acclaimed theater productions direct from Chicago in what promises to be its busiest season ever.

Remember in the golden era of live night club shows when the star of the show had a great opening act?  A Boca Raton audience got a double dose of entertainment last night as legendary actor, comedian, (and if you didn't know it WW ll hero) Marty Allen brought his show to the Boca Black Box.  In true show biz tradition the audience was warmed up, or more accurately put thrilled and fired up by the exciting vocalist pianist, and songwriter, Karon Kate Backwell.  She possesses all the excitement and talents of a Wayne Newton, Jerry Lee Lewis and Celine Dion. The audience gave her a standing ovation and so did her husband of 31 years Marty Allen.  

Cheryl Ann Allen will star in two shows this November and December. On November 12 at 3PM she will bring back her beloved one woman tribute Sophie Tucker In Person at the Ziegfeld Society at Lang Hall at Hunter College, 69th and Lexington. Tickets are $23 and available by visiting theziegfeldsociety.com. Ms. Allen will also return to the stage with her new show she recently debuted called, I'm A New Yorker written and directed by Ian Finkel. I'm A New Yorker will be performed at Don't Tell Mama's (343 West 46th Street) on Tuesday, November 29 and Wednesday, December 14 at 6:30pm. Freddie Roman, of Catskills On Broadway fame and past Dean of the Friars Club was the MC of a Borscht Belt evening in the Jerry Lewis Monastery last night and BroadwayWorld was there.

Cheryl Ann Allen brings to life the music, humor and drama of one of the greatest stars in show business 'Sophie Tucker' in Sophie Tucker in Person written and directed by Ian Finkel. From the Vaudeville era to the Ed Sullivan Show, the audience will be dazzled and enthralled seeing Ms. Tucker brought back to the stage through her great music and anecdotes of her life.  Ms. Tucker is accompanied by her pianist and confidant Mr. Ted Shapiro.   During her performance, the audience will be transported to an era of entertainment where great songs and humor will leave them with laughs, tears and warm memories.
