Considered one of Broadway's all-time triumphs, Gypsy sets the memoirs of entertainer Gypsy Rose Lee to music, telling the story of ambitious showbiz mother Rose, who travels across the country in the 20's and 30's with her daughters June and Louise, in search of success with their homespun act. Directed by Valley favorite, Rusty Ferracane, Gypsy features many of the best-loved songs in the entire musical theater canon: 'Some People,' 'Let Me Entertain You,' 'Together (Wherever We Go),' 'Everything's Coming Up Roses,' and 'Rose's Turn.'

Director Rusty Ferracane says of Gypsy: 'it really is the perfect musical!' Gypsy takes us back to the 1920's and 30's, a pivotal time for performing arts in America, when the vaudeville circuit was dying and audience tastes were changing. Gypsy brings the memoirs of entertainer Gypsy Rose Lee to life through the book by Arthur Laurents (West Side Story), music by Jule Styne (Peter Pan), and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim (Sweeney Todd). Considered by many to be one of Broadway's all-time triumphs, Gypsy tells the story of ambitious showbiz mother Rose, who travels across the country with her daughters June and Louise, in search of success with their homespun vaudeville act. As times change, Rose is forced to accept the demise of vaudeville and the rise of burlesque, as well as her daughters' desires for autonomy.

"There is something for everyone at Theater Works."

Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts has unveiled its 2016-17 season of music, dance, theater, comedy and more. The Center's star-studded lineup spans virtually every genre of the performing arts and highlights talent from around the globe, including Australia, Canada, Cuba, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Russia, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. The classic musical, telling the story of the author Cervantes and his creation, Don Quixote, opens Theater Works' 30th Anniversary Master Works Season on Friday, October 9 with Man of La Mancha. This pillar of musical theater is based on Dale Wasserman's remarkable, poignant and moving story of the "mad" knight Don Quixote and his "Impossible Dream" of honor, justice and love.

The Arizona premiere of FOLLIES opened on the Gyder Stage at the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts on February 20, 2015. The music and lyrics of the dazzling FOLLIES score are by Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim. The book is by Academy Award winner James Goldman, also known for The Lion in Winter. Under the direction of Philip Fazio, Stephen Sondheim's Follies is receiving Arizona's first fully produced production at Theater Works. Mr. Fazio has pulled out all the stops to stage an extravaganza that in Broadway lore has been dubbed one of the great milestones of musical theater. Conceptually, the show has the ingredients and the theatrical devices that can make for a great show, but, live and on stage, the production feels cluttered. Its brilliance lies rather in its outstanding technical aspects, in large part attributable to Mr. Fazio's artistic vision.

The Quiltmaker's Gift, adapted from Jeff Brumbeau's book nine years ago by Alan J. Prewitt, with music by Craig Bohmler and lyrics by Steven Mark Kohn, is enjoying a delightful and lighthearted reprise at Theater Works. Directed by Rusty Ferracane, it features a standout performance by Joshua Vern as the petulant king in search of happiness and a jubilant staging of color and choreography by Tamara Treat and Cydney Trent.
