Bolshoi Theatre Presents CLASS CONCERT, 1/23

Created in the early 1960s by Asaf Messerer, the ballet 'Class Concert' has never been seen in the United States. American balletomanes will finally have the opportunity to delight in this rarely performed ballet in a LIVE HD simulcast from Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre on Sunday, January 23rd, at 11 a.m. (Eastern) at Manhattan's BIG Cinemas Theater, 239 East 59th Street.

Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in Aaron Jay Kernis's a Voice, a Messenger, a World Premiere-New York Philharmonic Co- Commission with the Big Band Association, featuring Philharmonic Principal Trumpet Philip Smith, and the New York Premiere of Christopher Rouse's Oboe Concerto, with Principal Oboe Liang Wang, Tuesday, December 28, 2010, Wednesday, December 29, and Thursday, December 30, at 7:30 p.m. Also on the program: Vivaldi's Concerto for Four Violins, RV 580, performed by Philharmonic violinists Sheryl Staples, Michelle Kim, Marc Ginsberg, and Lisa Kim; Hindemith's Horn Concerto, played by Principal Horn Philip Myers; and Ravel's Boléro.

Jewish Museum Presents PETER AND THE WOLF, 12/12

The Jewish Museum will present Peter and the Wolf on Sunday, December 12 at 2 pm. This performance for families stars the Pushcart Players in a musical theater adaptation of the traditional Russian folk tale set to music by Sergei Prokofiev. While providing a charming introduction to the world of music and musical instruments, this enchanting tale is all about the adventure of growing up. Danger becomes reality and creative innovation becomes essential as young Peter meets the challenge of survival in the outside world.

Murray Bernthal Dies at 99

Syracuse's own Murray Bernthal passed away yesterday, December 9, at the age of 99. Bernthal died in his home of natural causes.

Punch, Purl Complete Cast of THE GRADUATE; Opens 12/8

Kathleen Turner and Matthew Rhys will reprise the roles they created (as Mrs. Robinson and Benjamin Braddock) in the original West End production when L.A. Theatre Works records Terry Johnson's hit stage adaptation of The Graduate for radio. Also in the cast are Bruce Davison (Mr. Braddock), John Getz (Mr. Robinson), Lucy Punch (Elaine), Linda Purl (Mrs. Braddock) and Tom Virtue (multiple roles). John Rubinstein will direct five performances, December 8-12, at the Skirball Cultural Center. L.A. Theatre Works' nationally syndicated radio theater series airs locally in Southern California on KPCC 89.3 every Saturday from 10 pm - midnight and can be streamed on demand at www.latw.org.
