Leading lady Kara Tointon was in Birmingham yesterday to launch a brand new production of one of the greatest thrillers of all time, Gaslight.

Following a ceremony at the Old Vic, the winners of the Evening Standard Awards have been revealed. The list includes West End juggernaut, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child; visionary of stage and screen, Kenneth Branagh; legend and star of Sunset Boulevard, Glenn Close; and more!

The Evening Standard Theatre Awards, established in 1955, are presented annually for outstanding achievements in London Theatre, and this year's nominations longlist has just been announced. Sponsored by the Evening Standard newspaper, this year's shortlist will be revealed on October 24, and winners on November 13, 2016.

'[Thank you] to an incredible cast of British and American actors who make the Atlantic look like a little creek you can just kind of pop across,' said Dame Helen Mirren upon receiving her 2015 Tony Award. The stage and screen star reprised her critically-acclaimed performance in THE AUDIENCE after a West End run in 2013, and she was just one of many to 'pop across' an ocean for a stab at Broadway.  An unprecedented amount of British talent took over Broadway last year, bringing us such productions as THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME, WOLF HALL: PARTS 1 & 2, and SKYLIGHT.   It doesn't seem like the trend is ending anytime soon. This fall, Broadway will welcome a slew of British actors- some of whom will be making their US stage debuts in incoming productions. And it's not just performers. We're getting some complete British imports in shows like A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE and KING CHARLES III. Below, we're taking a moment to shine a spotlight on this season's British imports.

The cast of The Angry Brigade will include Harry Melling, best known for his role as Dudley Dursley in Harry Potter and currently starring in Peddling at the Arcola, Mark Arends, whose credits include Headlong's 1984 and the RSC's Two Gentlemen of Verona, Pearl Chanda who recently appeared in Crave at Sheffield Crucible and Godchild at Hampstead Theatre, and Lizzy Watts, who last appeared at the Bush in Mike Bartlett's Artefacts.

English Touring Theatre and Theatre Royal Brighton Productions today announced casting for a new touring production of Tom Stoppard's comedy masterpiece, Arcadia, which will be the first major national tour since 1993, and over 20 years since the play has been seen by audiences around the UK.

Full casting is announced for Emlyn Williams' masterpiece Accolade directed by award-winning director Blanche McIntyre. Alexander Hanson and Abigail Cruttenden lead the company as Will and Rona Trenting, with Bruce Alexander (Daker), Sam Clemmett (Ian Trenting), Claire Cox (Marion Tillyard), Daniel Crossley (Albert), Olivia Darnley (Phyllis), Jay Taylor (Harold) and Jay Villiers (Thane Lampeter). Accolade - produced by Nicola Seed - is the final production in Stage One's One Stage season at the St James Theatre.

peddling, written and performed by Harry Melling, and directed by the Artistic Director of HighTide Steven Atkinson, will receive its London premiere at the Arcola Theatre 4th - 28th March 2015 following sold-out performances at HighTide Festival 2014 and 59E59, New York City.

The cast for Roy Williams' new play, Wildefire, which plays on the Main Stage at Hampstead Theatre 6 - 29 November will be led by Lorraine Stanley as Gail Wildefire, with Cian Barry, Ricky Champ, Fraser James, Simon Manyonda and Sharlene Whyte (Biographies below) and Eric Kofi Abrefa, Danny Dalton, Sammy Hayman, Tara Hodge and Noof Ousellam.

National Youth Music Theatre will present an exciting season of work for summer 2014, including a new commission to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the Great War. The company of over 150 actors, musicians, creative and backstage teams aged between 11 and 23 will stage The Ragged Child at the Rose Theatre, Kingston (23 - 27 July), The Hired Man at the St. James Theatre, London (13 - 16 August) and Brass at the City Varieties Music Hall, Leeds (20 - 23 August).

Best known for his recurring role as DI Mike Burden in The Ruth Rendell Mysteries, accomplished stage, TV and film actor Christopher Ravenscroft teams up with Rhiannon Sommers, acclaimed for her portrayal of Mary Shelley in Bloody Poetry at Jermyn Street Theatre in 2012, for the first ever revival of Arthur Wing Pinero's The Notorious Mrs Ebbsmith.

Secret/Heart presents the world premiere of a new adaptation of Billy Budd, directed by Seb Harcombe, adapted by the Company from the novel by Herman Melville. Emma Cunniffe, Mariah Gale, Matthew Marsh and Jamie Parker star in PROOF by David Auburn which begins performances at the Menier Chocolate Factory on the 14 March 2013. Bob Boyett has announced the full Broadway cast for the National Theatre of Great Britain's acclaimed production of ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS. Previews begin on April 6 and the official opening is April 18, 2012 at the Music Box Theatre on Broadway.

The Evening Standard Theatre Awards winners were announced tonight - Sheridan Smith won Best Actress with awards presented by star names including Karen Gillan, Gemma Arterton and Olivia Williams.

With some theatres already reporting that Midnight Tango is their fastest selling show of 2011, the producers of Midnight Tango have responded by adding further performances at certain venues on the nationwide tour, which begins in Southampton at the Mayflower Theatre on 6 April.
