Ballet Hispánico Announces Linda Celeste Sims As Company's New Rehearsal Director

Ballet Hispánico, the nation's renowned Latinx dance organization recognized last year as one of America's Cultural Treasures, announces the appointment of Linda Celeste Sims as its new Rehearsal Director. Sims returns to the Company after beginning her dance journey as a student and Company dancer at Ballet Hispánico. She steps into the new role following a 24-year accomplished career at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, in addition to recent remote teaching positions at Marymount College, Ailey Extension, as well as Ballet Hispánico.

Bard SummerScape 2021 opens with the live world premiere of I was waiting for the echo of a better day, a major new commission from Pam Tanowitz, the Fisher Center's inaugural Choreographer-in-Residence, with Jessie Montgomery, next Composer-in-Residence of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

2021 APAP Award Nominees Announced

The Association of Performing Arts Professionals announced the nominees for its APAP Awards. APAP will recognize the nominees and announce the final award recipients at The APAP Honors, as well as celebrate the recipients of the Annual NAPAMA Awards and Halsey & Alice North Award for APAP Board Alumni.

AYODELE CASEL: CHASING MAGIC Has Been Extended

The Joyce Theater Foundation has announced that the streaming window for Ayodele Casel: Chasing Magic, will be extended for one week, now through April 29. Drawing on a formula for success, Ayodele Casel reunites with long-time collaborator Torya Beard, who stepped into the role of Director for Ayodele Casel: Chasing Magic.

Zenetta S. Drew Nominated for 2021 APAP Award

The Association of Performing Arts Professionals announced the nominees for its APAP Awards, including Dallas Black Dance Theatre Executive Director Zenetta S. Drew. The APAP Honors, a virtual ceremony, will take place on Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. (EDT). The event is free and open-to-the-public.

Ayodele Casel Returns to The Joyce With World Premiere of CHASING MAGIC

Following up her 2019 Joyce debut, tap superstar Ayodele Casel will return to the venerated Chelsea venue this spring for a world premiere digital engagement that explores the joys of everyday life and the art of tap dance. The Joyce Theater Foundation will host the one-time-only digital dance event of the spring, Chasing Magic.

COCA has announced a limited number of in-person tickets for Ronald K.  Brown/EVIDENCE, A Dance Company, April 16–18, 2021, in the new Catherine B. Berges Theatre. The performances also will be livestreamed for at-home viewing. In-person tickets are $25; Livestream tickets are  $20.

Kaatsbaan Cultural Park Announces Spring Programming

Kaatsbaan Cultural Park has curated a dynamic program of leading artists from the worlds of dance, music, poetry, sculpture, and the culinary arts for its inaugural Spring Festival.
