Woolly Mammoth to Host Improvised Theatre & Spoken Word Mix During RODNEY KING

Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company announces the run of Roger Guenveur Smith's 'deeply moving' (The New York Times) Rodney King, an electrifying solo show that explores the legacy of a complex historical American icon. Smith, a celebrated artist noted for his performances in Spike Lee films such as Do the Right Thing and Malcolm X, was last at Woolly in 1996 with his stirring solo performance piece, A Huey P. Newton Story. A part of The Capital Fringe Festival, all tickets to this limited two-week engagement of Rodney King will be $35.

Long Beach Opera Announces AN AMERICAN SOLDIER'S TALE and A FIDDLER'S TALE, 5/4

Long Beach Opera's offbeat double bill provides two iconic American takes on Igor Stravinsky's whimsical, neoclassical theater piece L'Histoire du Soldat. Composed in 1918, Stravinsky's original score was set to Ferdinand Ramuz's version of a Russian folktale about a soldier in pursuit of a princess and a treasure who is conned by the Devil.

Woolly Mammoth to Present RODNEY KING, STUPID F##KING BIRD this Summer

Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company has announced two shows this summer: the critically acclaimed solo performance Rodney King by Roger Guenveur Smith; and the return of audience favorite Stupid F##king Bird by Aaron Posner, which premiered in Woolly's 2012-13 Season.

This week's New York Times In Peformance video features Roger Guenveur Smith in a scene from his monologue "Rodney King.' The play, set in 1991, recalls the true story of the construction worker whose videotaped beating by Los Angeles police sparked deadly protests after the officers were acquitted the following year.

The Public Theater has announced that single tickets are now on sale for the 10th Anniversary of the world-renowned UNDER THE RADAR FESTIVAL, running January 8-19, 2014. A highly-anticipated program of The Public Theater's winter season, the 2014 UNDER THE RADAR FESTIVAL will include artists from across the U.S. and around the world, including 600 HIGHWAYMEN, Lola Arias, Edgar Oliver, tg STAN, SKaGeN, Andrew Ondrejcak, John Hodgman, Sekou Sundiata, Roger Guenveur Smith, and Toshi Reagon. The late-night Festival Lounge will also include an eclectic mix of adventurous music and cabaret performances, including Champagne Jerry, DJ AndrewAndrew, Invincible, Ethan Lipton, Nick Hallett, Holcombe Waller, and Middle Church Jeriesse Johnson Gospel Choir.

Three world premieres, seven productions in all, are scheduled for the 10th season at the Douglas. The works range from a new rock musical to a sweeping new drama to a masterful interpretation of the works of Beckett, plus the bonus option of The Second City's one-of-a-kind Christmas show. In addition, three Los Angeles solo artists will be presented in the popular DouglasPlus program, and will represent CTG in the Radar L.A. festival.
