Multi-award winning Rogue Machine brings David Harrower's critically acclaimed play Blackbird to Los Angeles for the first time. The company's recently extended run of Small Engine Repair (CRITIC'S CHOICE-LA Times; GO- LA Weekly, CRITIC'S PICK-Backstage, Ovation RECOMMENDED) will run simultaneously with this production, in Rogue Machine's larger space at Theatre Theater, during the first few weeks in June.

The 2011 Garland Award recipients were announced today, honoring the best of Los Angeles theatre. Under the voting system each Garland winner was named on at least three critics' 'Best of 2010' lists. Each critic listed up to five nominees for each category except performance, up to 10 nominees for performance in musical productions and 10 for straight plays. Here are the critics' lists, minus the winners. The critics who voted are Jeff Favre, Hoyt Hilsman, Travis Holder, Eric Marchese, Dany Margolies, Dink O'Neal, Melinda Schupmann, Madeleine Shaner, Les Spindle, Neal Weaver, and Jennie Webb. Painful though the subject matter of Four Places truthfully is, you can identify and spot at least one member of your family within its four characters. Mother Peggy, daughter Ellen, and son Warren are present; the father never appears, but his presence is felt as clearly as the other three, thanks to the astute writing of Joel Drake Johnson. In fact, the play has everything going for it: great writing, directing, acting and technical values.
