The Metropolitan Opera presents one of the most beloved operas in the repertory, Georges Bizet's Carmen, with performances October 30 to November 15 and again from January 9 to February 8. Starring in all performances in the title role is Clémentine Margaine, who made her celebrated Met debut in this role in 2017. Yonghoon Lee and Roberto Alagna share the role of Carmen's lover, Don José. Guanqun Yu, Aleksandra Kurzak, and Susanna Phillips sing the role of Micaëla, and Kyle Ketelsen, Alexander Vinogradov, and Michael Todd Simpson portray the toreador Escamillo. Conductor Omer Meir Wellber makes his Met debut leading the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in interpreting Bizet's famous score; winter performances are conducted by Louis Langrée.

The electrifying star duo of mezzo-soprano Elna Garana and tenor Roberto Alagna reunite in the title roles of The Metropolitan Opera's production of Samson et Dalila. See this incredible opera on the big screen in HD at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Monday, October 22nd at 6:30pm, part of the Atria Senior Living Classical Series with Support from The Ridgefield Press and Whistle Stop Bakery. Sir Mark Elder conducts the first new Met production of the work in 20 years. Saint-Saens's biblical epic is a sensual French opera in the hands of Darko Tresnjak, who won a Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical in 2014 for A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder, making his Met debut directing a vivid, seductive staging, featuring a monumental setting for the last-act Temple of Dagon, where the hero crushes his Philistine enemies. This series is underwritten by Lori & John Berisford, Jeanne Cook, Liz & Steven Goldstone, and Sabina & Walter Slavin.

Well, no one could accuse the opening of the Met's new season, with Darko Trasnjak's production of Saint-Saens' SAMSON ET DALILA, to Ferdinand Lemaire's libretto, of being drab. Starry, certainly. Over the top, definitely. Filled with feathers, absolutely. Call it “Crazy, Rich Philistines.”

The Metropolitan Opera will open its 134th season on Monday, September 24, with a new production of Saint-Saens's biblical tragedy Samson et Dalila, conducted by Sir Mark Elder and starring El?na Garan?a and Roberto Alagna, last seen together at the Met in acclaimed performances of Bizet's Carmen. Laurent Naouri co-stars as the High Priest opposite Elchin Azizov as the Philistine King Abimelech and Dmitry Belosselskiy as the Old Hebrew. Making his Met debut, Tony Award-winner Darko Tresnjak directs the first new Met production of the opera in 20 years. The opening performance will be simulcast live to Times Square, and the October 20 matinee will be seen throughout the world, as part of The Met: Live in HD series.
The Metropolitan Opera Announces its 2018 Summer HD Festival

The Metropolitan Opera's annual Summer HD Festival, which presents free outdoor screenings of operas on Lincoln Center Plaza, will return for the tenth time this summer, with one screening each night from Saturday, August 25, to Monday September 3, 2018 (Labor Day). The series will present ten recent performances from the company's acclaimed Live in HD series of movie theater transmissions. As a prelude to the festival, the Marx Brothers' classic film, A Night at the Opera, will be presented on the plaza on Friday, August 24, in association with the Film Society of Lincoln Center.

This summer, the Met will rebroadcast four popular operas from the groundbreaking Live in HD series as part of the Summer Encores in select cinemas worldwide. The 2018 Summer Encore titles include: Puccini's Madama Butterfly, Verdi's Il Trovatore, Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, and Puccini's Turandot.
