BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop Now Accepting Applications

Broadcast Music, Inc.® (BMI®), the global leader in music rights management, has announced that the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop is now accepting applications for its first year composer/lyricist class. The August 1, 2015, deadline is quickly approaching and applicants are asked to send in the requested materials as soon as possible. The Workshop begins mid-September 2015, and runs through June 2016. A recipient of the Tony Honors for Excellence in Theatre Award, the Lehman Engel Musical Workshop consists of approximately 250 composers, lyricists and book writers who are actively writing new works for the musical theatre.

Manchmal kann man die Qualitat einer Wohnlage am Alphabet ablesen: In New York etwa lebt es sich recht gut auf der Avenue A. Von B uber C bis zur Avenue D wird es jedoch immer schmuddeliger. Dann kommt das Ufer des East River, und Manhattan ist zuende. Ware das nicht so, konnte man sich ausrechnen, wer wohl in den Straßen lebte, die die hinteren Buchstaben des Alphabets tragen, in der Avenue Q zum Beispiel. Die fiktive Adresse liefert zugleich den Schauplatz und den Titel des diesjahrigen Musicals im theaterhagen. Sie ist ein Ort fur Menschen, die ihre großten Erfolge entweder lange hinter sich haben oder noch brennend - wenn auch im Moment leider vergeblich - darauf hoffen. Da es aber ja nicht immer die besten Eigenschaften sind, die mit Wohlstand belohnt werden, sind die Verlierer in der Avenue Q ein Gruppchen außerst liebenswerter Charaktere. Sie traumen davon, ein Star zu sein oder auch nur eine erfolgreiche Kindergartnerin, und vor allem traumen sie von der Liebe. Und die ist in der Avenue Q genauso schon und genauso kompliziert wie anderswo.

THE BOOK OF MORMON, winner of nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, is pleased to announce a lottery ticket policy for the National Tour, which begins Tuesday, June 30 at the Center for the Performing Arts in San Jose and plays a limited two-week engagement through Sunday, July 12. In San Jose, the production will conduct a pre-show lottery at the box office, making a limited number of tickets available at $28 apiece.

La Jolla Playhouse announces the cast and creative team for its world premiere of Up Here, a new musical comedy featuring book, music and lyrics by the husband-and-wife composing team of Robert Lopez (The Book of Mormon, Avenue Q) and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (In Transit), recipients of the 2014 Academy Award for Best Original Song for their hit song, 'Let It Go,' from the Disney animated film Frozen. Up Here is directed by Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers (Broadway's Rocky, Off-Broadway's Here Lies Love, Playhouse's Peter and the Starcatcher) and will run July 28 - September 6 in the Playhouse's Mandell Weiss Theatre.
