BWW Reviews: The Orpheum Proselytizes - Sort of - With THE BOOK OF MORMON
by Joseph Baker - Jun 26, 2014

I see them occasionally - white shirts (usually with pockets), black trousers, clean-shaven, and cradling folders and totes. They often are on a corner; at times, they are walking through the parking lots of apartment complexes. They are unfailingly polite; more often than not, they respect our 'Puh-lease'-don't-bother-me looks or our efforts to look as if more important business is calling us elsewhere. These sweet-natured people are usually more interested in our welfare than we ourselves are, and, well, that's nice.

When I was in Afghanistan, all's I wanted to do was come back to America. But when I got home to America there was this empty feeling and I just wanted to go back to Afghanistan. When your life is so extreme every single day, and you're just adrenaline pumping every day, and then you just come home to this perfect little world, it kind of just sets you off balance.-Lance Corporal Kevin Daly.

Entr'Acte Theatrix Presents AVENUE Q, Now thru 6/29
by Carol Kassie - Jun 19, 2014

Avenue Q has been called the 'funniest dirty musical' or 'the dirtiest funny musical' ever. Written by Jeff Marx and Robert Lopez (The Book of Mormon, Frozen) the Tony Award-winning show is a clever and irreverent look at the world through the eyes of the residents of Avenue Q as they explore and address the issues associated with growing up in the 'real' world, rather than the one their parents - and Sesame Street - described to them. Using a unique combination of humans and puppets, the musical chronicles its characters' struggles to find decent jobs, stable relationships, and their purpose in life.

BWW Reviews: THE BOOK OF MORMON
by Ellen Sterling - Jun 16, 2014

Those who aren't among the 15,082,028 people (6,398,889 in the United States) in the world's 29,253 congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - the Mormon Church - probably don't know much about that religion. I am one of those people. In fact, the one thing I absolutely believe in is musical theater. I don't claim it as a religion, but I do claim it can cure a host of ills and know that its devotees are fervid in their faith in the curative power of a good musical. I am supremely grateful that I saw my first Broadway show at the age of 5 and that my faith in that art form has never wavered in the least. Now, The Book of Mormon has reinforced that faith.
