The musical '13' is a delightful story that everyone can relate to having lived through those awkward teen years. Spinning Tree Theatre presents the Kansas City professional premiere of '13' with music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown and book by Dan Elish and Robert Horn.

The two-person play Not About Heroes opened Friday November 14 at the Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre in Kansas City, Mo. Due to technical difficulties the opening of the play was delayed a week from November 6. Bob Paisley, a founding member of the theater, directs the thought provoking dramatic World War I piece. Audiences that view the two-act drama as poetry in motion will insure themselves of a very entertaining evening.

That something special was the opening night of Ghost-Writer at the Quality Hill Playhouse in Kansas City on Saturday August 23. Michael Grayman directs the Spinning Tree Theatre production of Michael Hollinger's Ghost-Writer. The production opens the 2014-2015 season for Spinning Tree, and if this is an indication of the remainder of the season, it is going to be a marvelous ride.

Andy Parkhurst the Managing Director of the Spinning Tree Theatre announced the cast for the upcoming 2014-2015 season. The theatrical production company expands their season to four shows for the first time. Spinning Tree will present three Kansas City premieres during the season.

The Kansas City debut of Michael Hollinger's play Ghost-Writer comes to the Spinning Tree Theatre August 22 through September 7. Artistic Director Michael Grayman directs the production being staged at the Quality Hill Playhouse, 303 W. 10 Street.

This will be a new production designed by the Lyric Opera's Director of Design and Technical Production R. Keith Brumley and conducted by Artistic Director Ward Holmquist. Die Fledermauswill be directed by Tomer Zvulun, who has directed at the Metropolitan Opera, Seattle Opera and Wolf Trap Opera. The cast includes soprano Kelly Kaduce as Rosalinde, baritone Liam Bonner as Eisenstein, soprano Anna Christy as Adele, tenor Gordon Gietz as Alfred, mezzo soprano Joyce Castle as Count Orlofsky and baritone John Stephens as Frank.

Recently, Pulitzer-Prize-winning writer Michael Chabon made an appearance in Kansas City. Struggling against the crashing din of a Midwest thunderstorm raging outside, he managed to get through a 20-minute reading from his latest novel and opened the floor to questions when he'd finished.

Unicorn Theatre's first production of the decade will be Grey Gardens, a Tony nominated musical based on the 1975 documentary of the same name.
