At the end of a remarkable year for the Northampton venue, Royal & Derngate's Artistic Director James Dacre today announced details of Made in Northampton 2017. 

Lantern Theater Company continues its 2016/17 season with the Philadelphia premiere of An Iliad, written by Lisa Peterson and Tony Award-winning actor Denis O'Hare and based on Robert Fagles' acclaimed translation of Homer's Iliad. M. Craig Getting directs a cast that includes Barrymore Award-winners Peter DeLaurier and Liz Filios; Filios also serves as co-composer, working with sound designer Michael Hahn to create the evocative original music that scores the production. Theater critics and members of the press are invited to attend opening night on Wednesday, November 16 at 7 p.m. A full schedule is included in the fact sheet below.

By now the world is used to inhumane aberrations like ten-year wars. But back when Homer wrote his epic poem, it was still something to rage about, as he did about the siege of Troy by the Greeks in the Trojan War.

You know the story behind the Trojan War: the handsome young prince Paris is promised the most beautiful woman in the world by the goddess Aphrodite.  She's already married, but why should that matter? And so Helen ends up in Troy, her husband Menelaus is furious, and the Greeks go to war against the Trojans. For nearly a decade.  But this is not your father's Iliad-it's something more timeless and compelling, in Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare's An Iliad, adapted from the translation by Robert Fagles, beginning a 4-week run in the Studio at Stage West on Thursday, August 11.

Geva's Fielding Studio Series continues with the award-winning play AN ILIAD, written by Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare, based on Homer's The Iliad, translated by Robert Fagles and directed by Jerry Genochio. ?The Fielding Studio Series continues on February 4 with the award-winning play An Iliad, written by Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare, based on Homer's The Iliad, translated by Robert Fagles and directed by Jerry Genochio.

Whatever the past is, it is immortal to the person reliving it, and acknowledging the truth of this statement and thus questioning its relevance in the life of Homer's Poet is something the audience is faced with throughout An Iliad. In this beautiful one-man production, the sole man on stage offers his "immortality" to an audience of those who will listen through his tales of the Trojan War, not retelling epic battles and regurgitating facts that can be found in any history book, but conveying to his fellow listeners a story of his past. This past is one he has lived and continues to live through, boasting of and lamenting over brave men who were his friends, his enemies, his comrades in a war that he makes both he can make so simultaneously dreadful and beautiful. Not knowing for sure of his actual involvement in the events of the time, or for what reason he decides to recount and retell such events even though they cause him a considerable amount of anguish (very similar to Carraway in Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby), An Iliad is just that: an epic telling of a man's past that he, presumably, must tell again and again, making his words that much more poignant as he tells of a not so distinguishable time ago.

The play submission gates were thrown open on November 1 when the Table|Room|Stage (T|R|S) new play development program at Artists Repertory Theatre began accepting submissions for the new Oregon Play Prize.

Artists Repertory Theatre announces the launch of its ambitious New Play Development Program by naming Luan Schooler Director of New Play Development & Dramaturgy. Schooler will begin the post April 13, 2015. At the end of 2014, Artists Rep conducted a national search to find the right match for this position and the aesthetic of the theatre.

Four productions still remain in Geva Theatre Center's 42nd Season: A Body of Water, Lee Blessing's play of memory and identity; The Mountaintop, a reimagining of Martin Luther King's last night on earth; the world premiere of Cass Morgan's journey to discover her roots - The Road to Where; and the season's grand finale, the laugh-out-loud comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. The 2014-2015 Season continued Geva's innovative efforts to connect patrons and artists and art with the community. The 2015-2016 Season will continue to build on that and also usher in a new era as Geva's historic home begins to undergo renovation and transformation.

?American Players Theatre (APT) announces its 36th Summer Season, June 6 to October 18, 2015, a diverse lineup of eight classical and contemporary plays in repertory that includes the work of two visiting Chicago directors: Derrick Sanders, founding artistic director of Congo Square Theatre Company, makes his APT debut directing The Island by Athol Fugard, John Kani and Winston Ntshona in APT's intimate 200-seat Touchstone Theatre; and Jeff Award winner William Brown returns to direct Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire in APT's flagship 1148-seat outdoor amphitheater Up the Hill.
