Continuing a tradition inaugurated in 2006, the Met will offer a holiday presentation this December and January: an English-language performance of an opera, with special weekday matinees and discount pricing designed to make the Met affordable for families with children. This year's production, Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, opens December 18 and will star Aleksandra Kurzak, Heidi Stober, and Andriana Chuchman as Gretel; Christine Rice and Jennifer Johnson Cano as Hansel; Michaela Martens and Dwayne Croft as Gertrude and Peter, the wayward children's parents; and Robert Brubaker as the wicked Witch who captures them. Sir Andrew Davis will conduct all seven performances of the opera, which plays through January 8. There will be special weekday matinees at 11 a.m. on December 23 and December 30.

LA Opera General Director Plácido Domingo announced updated details for the west coast premiere of John Corigliano's magnificently haunting 1991 opera,The Ghosts of Versailles, which receives its long awaited west coast debut on February 7 as the initial production of LA Opera'sFigaro Trilogy. Featuring a libretto by noted playwright William C. Hoffman, the opera is presented in a new production directed by Darko Tresnjak, a 2014 Tony Award winner, and it will be conducted by LA Opera Music Director James Conlon.

Heidi Stober will sing the role of Gretel in the January 1 and January 3 matinee performances of Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel. As previously announced, Aleksandra Kurzak sings Gretel on December 18, 23 matinee, 27, and 30 matinee, and Andriana Chuchman sings the role on January 8. As the Met's annual holiday presentation, the opera will be performed in English with family-friendly ticket prices and special weekday matinees.

The Dallas Opera is proud to announce the appointment of Brian Zeger as Chair of the Judges Panel for the 2015 Dallas Opera Guild Vocal Competition. This season's competition will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2015 and Sunday, April 19, 2015 in the elegant setting of the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center. Extravagantly scaled, gloriously tuneful, supremely touching and yet uproariously entertaining, The Ghosts of Versailles turns history on its head as love attempts to alter the course of destiny. Running February 7- March 1, 2015, the production will feature direction by Tony winner Darko Tresnjak.

Opera Lancaster reported 40% greater attendance for its regular season as well as increases in the number of individual donations, business contributions and grant funding during its 2013/14 fiscal year. When its year ends on June 30, they expect total donations to be up by at least 9.5% from the year prior, grants to be up by at least 37% and business support up by 34%.
