The Cleveland Orchestra Announces Cleveland Native Jessica Sindell As Assistant Principal Flute

The Cleveland Orchestra and Music Director Franz Welser-Most have announced that Jessica Sindell, a Northeast Ohio native from Pepper Pike and Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra (COYO) alumna, joined the Orchestra as Assistant Principal Flute beginning the week of October 22. This appointment marks the fifth COYO alum to join The Cleveland Orchestra and brings the number of COYO alumni currently playing in the Orchestra to four. Ms. Sindell will sit in The Cleveland Orchestra's Austin B. and Ellen W. Chinn Assistant Principal Flute Endowed Chair. She fills the position previously held by Marisela Sager for thirteen seasons, from 2005 to 2018.
Decoda Makes Carnegie Hall Debut With Two Programs This Season

Jaap van Zweden Conducts Matthias Goerne's First Appearance as Artist-in-Residence

Music Director Jaap van Zweden will conduct Matthias Goerne's first appearance as The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence of the New York Philharmonic for the 2018-19 season. He will be joining the Orchestra for orchestral arrangements of selected songs by Schubert and Richard Strauss in concerts that also include Webern's arrangement of J.S. Bach's Fuga (Ricercata) from Musical Offering, BWV 1079, and Mozart's Symphony No. 40. The program takes place Thursday, December 6, 2018, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, December 7 at 2:00 p.m.; and Saturday, December 8 at 8:00 p.m.

The Adelphi Orchestra will feature Randall Mitsuo Goosby, Violin (First Prize winner of the Adelphi Orchestra Competition, First Prize winner of the Sphinx Competition ) in the rarely performed and defiantly triumphant Korngold Concerto for Violin in D major, Op. 35. Randall Goosby's performance of the Korngold Violin Concerto will be the centerpiece in a program entitled "From Vienna with Love" which will also feature Strauss's Overture to Die Fledermaus and concludes with the beautiful Symphony no 2 in D major by Brahms. Sometimes, it's nice to remember a time when opera was all about wonderful singing, singing and more singing. Sunday's annual concert of the Richard Tucker Foundation--celebrating the current winner of its top prize, bass-baritone Christian Van Horn--was a great salute to this artist in particular but to the form in general. And the presence of opera-loving Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg—still doing her best to keep the flame at 85--was the cherry on the sundae.

Dallas Symphony Association Chairman Sanjiv Yajnik, Music Director Designate Fabio Luisi and President & CEO Kim Noltemy announced today that conductor Gemma New has been appointed Principal Guest Conductor, Dolores G. & Lawrence S. Barzune, M.D. Chair of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. She will conduct two weeks of concerts in the 2019/20 season and three weeks of concerts in the 2020/21 season. New's appearances in 2019 will coincide with the DSO's inaugural Women in Classical Music Symposium.

On Thursday, November 8 at 8:00 p.m. Music Director Daniel Barenboim leads the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra-the lauded ensemble of young musicians from Israel, Palestine, and other Arab countries that Mr. Barenboim co-founded in 1999 with his late friend, the Palestinian literary scholar Edward W. Said-in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. The evening's program will feature Richard Strauss's Don Quixote-with violist Miriam Manasherov and cellist Kian Soltani stepping forward from the orchestra as soloists-as well as Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5. Conductor Jeremie Rhorer, founder of Le Cercle de l'Harmonie, makes his debut London Philharmonic Orchestra debut at Royal Festival Hall on Saturday, October 13, 2018. Rhorer will conduct two monumental choral works: Carl Orff's canonic Carmina Burana and Francis Poulenc's rarely-heard Stabat Mater. Rhorer will lead the London Philharmonic Orchestra and London Philharmonic Choir as well as a trio of accomplished vocalists: soprano Louise Adler, tenor Toby Spencer, and baritone Simon Keenlyside.
