The first Broadway revival of August Wilson's 1987 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play FENCES, which won the 2010 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play, will play its final performance this Sunday, July 11, ending its record-breaking limited run at the Cort Theatre (138 West 48th Street, NYC).

Kevin McCollum, Jeffrey Seller and Jill Furman Willis, the producers of the 2008 Tony and Grammy Award-winning Best Musical In The Heights, announced today that Seth Stewart will return to the role of 'Graffiti Pete,' the role he originated, for 4 weeks only from Monday, June 7, through Satuday, July 3, 2010 at Broadway's Richard Rodgers Theatre (226 West 46th Street). In addition Corbin Bleu has added a final 3 additional weeks to his critically acclaimed run in In The Heights. Corbin Bleu's final performance is Tuesday, August 17, and beginning August 19, In The Heights will star American Idol winner Jordin Sparks.

As BroadwayWorld has previously reported, the 2008 Tony and Grammy Award-winning Best Musical In The Heights welcomes 19 Recordings/Jive Records platinum recording artist and 2007 'American Idol' winner Jordin Sparks as Broadway's new Nina Rosario on August 19, 2010. 20 year old Jordin Sparks will be making her Broadway debut, playing a limited 12 week engagement through Sunday, November 14, 2010.
During a Monday night concert, June 28, at House of Blues, Sparks surprised the audience with a teaser of her performance to come, singing 'Breathe' from In The Heights.
TheatreWorks Launches 9th Annual New Works Festival, 8/8-22

TheatreWorks, the nationally-acclaimed theatre of Silicon Valley, continues its commitment to the creation and development of new works with the 2010 New Works Festival, sponsored by Microsoft. The ninth annual Festival, August 8-22 at TheatreWorks at Lucie Stern Theatre, features fifteen days of new works unveiled to the public, including new musicals, new plays, a cabaret concert, and a panel discussion. This year's festival will feature a developmental production of the funny and inspirational musical FLY BY NIGHT from Kim Rosenstock, Will Connolly, and Michael Mitnick. Additionally announced for this summer's lineup are staged readings of two musicals: GREAT WALL, a vibrant pop musical from Kevin Merritt and Kevin So (with Tony Award-winner David Henry Hwang as a story consultant), and the moving gospel and jazz musical RED CLAY from Jeff Hughes and Scott Ethier. The festival will also feature readings of two plays: HOW TO WRITE A NEW BOOK FOR THE BIBLE, the latest piece from New Works Festival veteran Bill Cain (Equivocation) and VARIATIONS ON A THEME, a luminous drama by Anna Ziegler. Audience members are invited to a Meet the Artists Panel at 7:30pm on August 15. The panel discussion will give an inside look at what it's like to write for the stage. Festival composers, performers, and special guests will share a wealth of new songs and treasured favorites at Festival: Unplugged, Songs in the Key of New, a cabaret concert on Friday, August 20. Luis Salgado choreographs Jaradoa Theater's new musical I'll Be Damned while continuing his run in the Tony Award winning Best Musical In the Heights. I'll Be Damned will play the Dimson Theatre at The Vineyard for a limited engagement from Thursday, July 1 - Sunday, July 18.
