IOWA Begins Previews Tomorrow at Playwrights Horizons

Previews begin tomorrow, today, March 20 for the Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) world premiere of IOWA, a new musical play written by Susan Smith Blackburn Prize finalist Jenny Schwartz (God's Ear, Somewhere Fun), music by Todd Almond (Stage Kiss at PH, Kansas City Choir Boy, The Tempest, On the Levee) and lyrics by Mr. Almond and Ms. Schwartz. Directed by two-time Obie Award winner Ken Rus Schmoll (Red Dog Howls, Middletown, What Once We Felt; next season's Antlia Pneumatica at PH), the musical play will be the fifth production of the theater company's 2014/2015 Season.

Richard Nelson's THE APPLE FAMILY PLAYS to Launch European Tour

The Public Theater announced today that Richard Nelson's award-winning THE APPLE FAMILY PLAYS: SCENES FROM LIFE IN THE COUNTRY will tour Europe for five weeks beginning April 23 at The Find Festival in Berlin. The other tour venues include The May International Festival in Weisbaden, Germany; The Brighton Festival in the United Kingdom; and the Vienna Festival in Austria where the tour will conclude on May 23. The tour is being produced by David Eden, Executive Producer for David Eden Productions, and co-produced and general managed by Tim Smith for Pemberley Productions.

The expected political zingers fail to materialize and this family spends more time eating than anything else.

Profiles Theatre continues its 26th Season with the Chicago premiere of The Other Place by Sharr White, directed by Artistic Director Joe Jahraus. The production runs tonight, February 13 - April 5, 2015 at Profiles Theatre's The Main Stage, 4139 N. Broadway. The press opening is Thursday, February 19 at 8pm.

Stoneham Theatre & Gloucester Stage Partnering for THE APPLE FAMILY PLAYS

Stoneham Theatre and Gloucester Stage join forces for two consecutive seasons to produce the New England premieres of all four of The Apple Family plays by Richard Nelson. Striving to achieve a common mission, this partnership further enables both theatres to proliferate and produce new and rarely performed works, enriching the art of live theatre in Greater Boston's northern suburbia to the shores of Cape Ann, Massachusetts.

OSF Awarded $125K Grant for Lynn Nottage Commissions

The ?Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) is the recipient of a generous grant of $125,000 from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation (DDCF) through the foundation's new Theatre Commissioning and Production Initiative. The grant will support the production of playwright Lynn Nottage's Sweat and a future commission by Ms. Nottage. Sweat is commissioned through OSF's American Revolutions: the United States History Cycle and will premiere at OSF on August 2, 2015 and run through October 31.

TCG Publishes New Translation of A MONTH IN THE COUNTRY

Theatre Communications Group (TCG) has announced the publication of the revelatory new translation of Ivan Turgenev's A Month in the Country, by renowned playwright Richard Nelson and foremost Russian translators Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky. The play marks the second of TCG's Classic Russian Drama Series, which will publish classics over the next ten years.

Playwrights Horizons Names Adam Greenfield New Associate Artistic Director

Playwrights Horizons announced today the promotion of the theater company's Director of New Play Development Adam Greenfield to Associate Artistic Director. This is the first major change to the Artistic leadership of the acclaimed organization since Mr. Sanford was promoted from the same associate position to become Artistic Director in 1996.
