The New Group Revival of BURIED CHILD Opens Tonight

The New Group presents Sam Shepard's BURIED CHILD, the third production in its 2015-2016 season. Originally set to play a limited Off-Broadway engagement through March 13, this extended production now plays through Sunday, March 27. The show officially opens tonight, February 17, at The Pershing Square Signature Center (The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre, 480 West 42nd Street).

Austin Pendleton to Direct LUNA GALE at Cleveland Play House

Cleveland Play House's (CPH) monumental 100th Season continues with the regional premiere of LUNA GALE. CPH welcomes back film and stage legend Austin Pendleton to direct this contemporary drama that begs the question 'To whom do you belong?' Written by Rebecca Gilman, recipient of the 2015 Roe Green Award, LUNA GALE runs February 27 - March 20 in the intimate Allen Theatre.

The New Group Extends BURIED CHILD with Ed Harris, Taissa Farmiga & More

Due to demand, The New Group has announced a two-week extension for Sam Shepard's Buried Child, the third production in the company's 2015-2016 season.  Originally set to play a limited Off-Broadway engagement through March 13, this production now plays through Sunday, March 27.  Directed by Scott Elliott, this production features Taissa Farmiga, Ed Harris, Amy Madigan, Larry Pine, Rich Sommer, Paul Sparks and Nat Wolff.  Previews begin February 2 in advance of an Official Opening Night on Wednesday, February 17 at The Pershing Square Signature Center (The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre, 480 West 42nd Street).

Artie Lange, Charlie Murphy, Whitney Cummings & More Coming to Carolines on Broadway in January

Carolines on Broadway announces its line-up for the month of January 2016, highlighted by headliners Joe Machi, a finalist from Season 8 of NBC's "Last Comic Standing," January 1 - 3; Michael Blackson, "The African King of Comedy", January 7 - 10; Artie Lange, host of "Artie Lange's Uncensored Podcast," January 15; Charlie Murphy, from Comedy Central's "Chappelle's Show," Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend, January 16 & 17; Whitney Cummings, from her HBO special, "I'm Your Girlfriend," January 20 and 21; Eric Andre, star of Adult Swim's "The Eric Andre Show," January 21 - 23; and J.B. Smoove, from HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," January 28 - 30.

HOUSE OF CARDS, MAD MEN Stars Round Out Cast of The New Group's BURIED CHILD

The New Group has announced full casting for the company's production of Sam Shepard's Buried Child. Directed by Scott Elliott, this production will feature Larry Pine (Casa Valentina), Rich Sommer ('Mad Men'), Paul Sparks ('House of Cards') and Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), and as previously announced, Taissa Farmiga, Ed Harris and Amy Madigan. Previews begin February 2 in advance of an Official Opening Night on Wednesday, February 17. A limited Off-Broadway engagement is slated through March 13 at The Pershing Square Signature Center (The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre, 480 West 42nd Street).

BWW Special Coverage: Behind the Scenes Story of the Cleveland Play House's Tony Award

At the end of each year, the Cleveland Critics Circle meets to select the winners of that year's performance awards as well as to deal with matters of importance to area theatres. At the session which brought to a close the 2014 season, I mentioned that Fran Heller, who was a member of CCC at the time, had proposed several years ago that the group nominate the Cleveland Play House for The Regional Tony Award. It had been agreed that the timing was probably not right as CPH was adjusting to its new home in the PlayhouseSquare area and a new Artistic Director was coming on board.

Brave New Workshop Announces New Home for BNW Student Union

The Brave New Workshop Theatre (BNW) announced plans today to purchase an additional building in the Hennepin Avenue Downtown Theatre District in order to house its growing school, the BNW Student Union, as well as additional office and workshop space for its theatre and its corporate services division (BNW Creative Outreach).

Cleveland Playhouse Hosts MAD MEN, MUSIC & MARTINIS Benefit Tonight

Cleveland Play House along with co-chairs Char Fowler and Ryan R. Cross, are pleased to announce details of the 2014 annual benefit, Mad Men, Music & Martinis. Taking place tonight, June 7th in the Allen Theatre at PlayhouseSquare, this year's theme pays homage to the swanky era of the 1960's. The evening will include cocktails, a live auction and raffle, roaming dinner and live entertainment by Kristine Jackson, Cleveland native Elijah Rock and tap legend Maurice Hines. CPH will also be honoring Barbara R. Snyder, President, Case Western Reserve University and Thomas F. Zenty, III, Chief Executive Officer, University Hospitals with the Centennial Star Award. All proceeds from Mad Men, Music & Martinis will benefit the artistic and educational programs of Cleveland Play House.
