DUTF 2015 Finalists Announced!

Downtown Urban Theater Festival (DUTF) has chosen 28 diverse finalists for its 13th Annual season to run on the Mainstage at HERE in SoHo from May 13-30, 2015. This year, DUTF attracted some of the best new and emerging playwrights who hail from all over the country. After several weeks of review by the DUTF team and Artistic Director Reg E. Gaines, Tony-nominated for Bring in da Noise Bring in da Funk, the finalists are:
San Diego Writers Can Submit to Anthology, Through Today

Writers interested in getting their work published have until July 31 to submit their poetry, prose, or flash fiction for publication submission in the San Diego Writers, Ink A Year in Ink Volume 8 Anthology. Eligibility is available to residents of San Diego. Members ($35 a year) can submit up to three pieces at no cost. The non-member fee is just $5 per entry.
An Anthology is a compilation of accepted works by authors that have been published before, and others who have never been published. Accepted pieces are featured in a printed publication.
reg e. gaines, a Tony-nominated writer and Bessie Award winner, is one of the editors of the 8th Anthology and is available for media appearances to talk about the Anthology process. reg e had a brush with fame in New York City with the slam poetry movement. He will be editing the poetry submissions for the Writers, Ink Anthology.
Dean Nelson, the prose editor, is the founder and director of the journalism program at PLNU (Point Loma Nazarene University) who writes occasionally for the New York Times, the Boston Globe, Christianity Today, Sojourners and other national publications and has co-written 11 books.

In spring 2014, the Downtown Urban Theater Festival (DUTF) will return for a much-anticipated 12th annual season and from 140 submissions, DUTF has narrowed it down to 29 finalists. The decisions were extremely difficult due to the amazing plays received from gifted emerging writers who hail from across the U.S. and internationally from Canada, Egypt, Iran, Israel, United Kingdom, Rio de Janeiro and Romania.

On March 23 and 24, 68 Productions will present Summer Dawn Hortillosa's "Before, After and Always," a one-act play for two actors divided into three parts. The romantic comedy will bepart of STAGEfest at the Landmark Loew's Jersey Theatre in Journal Square. It will be staged in an unconventional performance space, the upstairs left lobby of the historic movie palace.
