Houston Ballet will close its current production, American at Heart, featuring two ballets that are significant to the history American dance (George Balanchine's Apollo and Jerome Robbins's Fancy Free) and one work inspired by American popular culture and created specifically for an American company (Christopher Bruce's Hush, choreographed for Houston Ballet in 2006). The 2010 Olivier Awards will take place on 21 March 2010 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, with Spring Awakening, Enron, Jerusalem and A Little Night Music among the standouts of the season with the most nominations. The Laurence Olivier Awards were established in 1976 as The Society of West End Theatre Awards, and Lord Olivier agreed to have his name associated with them in 1984. The Awards are run by The Society of London Theatre but are adjudicated by panels that are equally made up of members of the theatregoing public and experts chosen for their knowledge and professional experience. The Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation has announced that the winners of the 2009 Joe A. Callaway Awards for excellence in the crafts of directing and choreography are director Garry Hynes for The Cripple of Inishmaan and choreographer Martha Clarke for Garden of Earthly Delights.

Directors Garry Hynes and Martha Clarke were the 2009 recipients of the Joe A. Callaway Award, honoring excellence in direction and choreography in non-Broadway productions in New York. Hynes won for his production of THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN and Clarke for choreography of GARDEN OF EARTHLY DELIGHTS. The honors were bestowed earlier this month.

Rhoda Herrick has just announced that Garden of Earthly Delights will be extending its run for the second consecutive time, continuing through Sunday, May 31 at the Minetta Lane Theatre (18 Minetta Lane). The show, which opened to rave reviews on November 19, began previews on November 8 and was originally slated to run through January 18. Youth Music Theatre UK have announced a major new production of Howard Goodall's A Winter's Tale as the flagship production in their 2009 programme. Goodall, who has written the music and lyrics for the show, has joined forces with Nick Stimson, who also directs. The production will be staged in Guildford, with a planned transfer to London and Edinburgh in 2010.
