The Chimera Project is excited to be launching the return engagement of BLOOD, which is described as an exploration urban mythology which is played out through intense and creative choreography.

Based on the allergorical story about a scorpion and a frog attempting to cross a river, BLOOD will use intense dance and choreography to tell its tale.  The story begins with a scorpion trying to convince a frog to help carry him across a river on his back.  The frog is afraid but finally gives in, only to be stung half way across the river by the scorpion.  The frog cries out "Why have you done this? Now we will both die!" and the scorpion responds: "It's in my blood..."  BLOOD will use this story to examine human nature through a fusion of ballet, urban, contact improvisation and martial arts choreographed by the renowned Malgorzata Nowacka.

There will only be six performances, and they are taking place as part of Harbourfront Centre's Next Step Series.

The Chimera Project is driven by a lust for physical and intense experiences, and BLOOD promises to be a sensual assault on artistic complacency.  Long-time Chimera company members, Amy Hampton, Malgorzata Nowacka, Anisa Tejpar, and Brendan Wyatt will be joined this season by Martin Lininger (Rambert Dance Company, Hubbard Street Dance, National Ballet of Canada).

BLOOD is already getting a lot of buzz, and here is just some of what people have been saying about the production:

"Nowacka is one of the most exciting choreographers in the country. Her new work Blood is as disturbing as it is mesmerizing, as physically challenging as it is intellectually provocative. Part Goth, part punk, part rebel, part urban princess, her dances come hurtling out of a Queen St. West aesthetic where attitude meets defiance."   Paula Citron, Dance Critic

"Nowacka's been revitalizing the dance scene with her gravity-defying works. Expect her to draw lots of metaphoric - and maybe some literal - Blood."  Now Magazine

"Malgorzata Nowacka took her art to a new level in dance that is an elaborate play of opposites performed by an all-star cast, including the choreographer."  The Toronto Star

BLOOD will perform on October 27, 28, 30 & 31 at 8PM and on November 1st at 2PM at the Enwave Theatre, 231 Queens Quay West, Toronto.  There will also be a special student matinee at 1PM on October 29th.

Tickets are on sale now and are only $33.  Students and Seniors are $20 and the Harbourfront Flex Pass is $25 and $16 respectively.

Tickets can be purchased by phone at 416-973-4000 or online at www.harbourfrontcentre.com
