The Muny is currently presenting the fourth show of its fantastic 95th Season, South Pacific, directed by Rob Ruggiero and choreographed by Ralph Perkins. South Pacific is sponsored by Emerson. Laura Michelle Kelly stars as Ensign Nellie Forbush, with Ben Davis co-starring as Emile de Becque. Joining them will be Loretta Ables Sayre as Bloody Mary, Josh Young as Lt. Joseph Cable, Sumie Maeda as Liat, Tally Sessions as Luther Billis, James Anthony as Capt. George Brackett, Michael James Reed as Cdr. Rodgers and Hammerstein's SOUTH PACIFIC is a lavish and impressive show filled with gorgeous melodies, many of which have become standards that you'll find yourself humming on the way home from The Muny. From an intellectual standpoint, the social issues that this Pulitzer prize winning drama tackles were groundbreaking for their time, and they still manage to make an impact today, despite how far along we may have come in our thinking. Hammerstein and original director Josh Logan crafted a solid book that pulls elements from James Michener's Tales of the South Pacific, while still following the usual musical theatre conventions of the time. In particular, there are the parallel love stories that thread throughout this World War II based tale, both building in their passion until they're undone by deep-seated racial prejudices that have to be overcome before either can move forward.

BroadwayWorld.com noticed something today as we scoured Facebook and it's something that we really liked, so we wanted to share it with you because it's not so often that you find such generosity for actors. This weekend, all roads lead to St. Louis as actors are headed there from all over the country to audition for the Muny's summer production of LES MISERABLES directed by Richard Jay-Alexander and with music direction by Kevin Stites.

Executive Producer Mike Isaacson announced today the directors, choreographers and music directors for its 2013 Season, which opens on June 17 with Monty Python's Spamalot. 'This is a phenomenally talented group of artists, and I'm thrilled to be working with all of them. Last season our audience inspired us to take many risks and push ourselves far. These directors and choreographers are already working on ways to top last season's level of excitement and excellence.'

The Muny closes their 2012 season with the revival of a classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, THE KING AND I. It's an elegant end to a very entertaining season that's been full of surprises. Here, the only surprise is how well this warhorse has aged, with its "East meets West", or "mismatched mates" device still working to perfection. Of course, it helps if you have quality performances from the leads, combined with the energetic direction of Rob Ruggerio.

Kevin Gray, playing The King of Siam in St. Louis' currently running production of THE KING AND I, returns to The Muny after previously playing the Engineer in Miss Saigon (2001). The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis (The Rep) opened Sunday in the Park with George, music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine, on the Browning Mainstage of the Loretto-Hilton Center for the Performing Arts on January 4. SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE is a fascinating and visually dazzling examination of painter Georges Seurat and his unique style, which art books call pointillism. Stephen Sondheim has crafted an entertaining score, but it was at the suggestion of book writer, James Lapine, that this artful and delightful production actually came together. While viewing his masterpiece, "A Sunday afternoon on the Island of La Grand Jatte", Lapine remarked that the only thing missing was the painter himself, and so we're blessed with this visually arresting musical recreation of that moment in time. The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis has conjured up a superb rendering, filled with sharp performances and a pair of tableaus, one at the end of each act, that are breathtaking in their beauty.
