Anton Chekhov's masterpiece tells the story of a once-wealthy family whose world of opulence and glamour turns upside-down because they don't recognize the consequences of a changing world.

Just announced this afternoon, Roundabout Theatre Company will welcome Chuck Cooper as 'Pischik,' joining Diane Lane, Tavi Gevinson, John Glover, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Harold Perrineau and Joel Grey in a new production of The Cherry Orchard.

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) just announced additional cast members joining Diane Lane in a new production of The Cherry Orchard.

Matilda Wormwood is a precocious five-year old who loves to read and has the ability to perform telekinesis. She also likes to meet life's obstacles. She comes from a family in which her father wanted a male child, so he calls her 'boy,' has a mother who didn't know she was pregnant and when Matilda came along was irritated because it interfered with Mrs. Wormwood entering dancing competitions and carrying on an affair with her dance instructor, and whose fellow students think she is odd because she likes school and knows all the answers.

Sound problems mar an otherwise spectacular tour.

Matilda the Musical is an absolute joy to experience at the Fisher Theatre. The magic, the music, and the extremely talented cast - both children and adults alike - make it one of the most fun and unique shows that has come around to Detroit.

"I saw Matilda on Broadway for the first time after I had been cast in the show. At intermission, I said to my wife, 'this could be my favorite show I've ever seen.' I'm not a musical theatre person, yet it is one of the most unique things I have ever witnessed on stage,' said Quinn Mattfeld, who plays Mr. Wormood, in Matilda the Musical, which arrives this Thursday, March 9th at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit.

Can there be a better way to capture Matilda's spirit so evocatively than in a sparkling new work for the musical theater? A musical journey through which we can chart her soulful, heartfelt ascent into a literary hierarchy in which readers can live vicariously? Matilda's forays into a fictional world of devil-may-care adventure, oftentimes aided by her gift for telekinesis or her penchant for clever tricks (like switching her father's hair oil with her mother's peroxide) - which is at once darker than other offerings of like ilk, yet somehow rather more confectionary than even the fluffiest of musical comedies - lend themselves exquisitely to Matilda the Musical, the critically lauded stage extravaganza that is somehow effervescently uplifting while remaining grounded.

Broadway In Chicago has announced that individual tickets for MATILDA THE MUSICAL, produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company and The Dodgers, go on sale to the public on Friday, January 22.  The First National Tour of MATILDA THE MUSICAL will play Chicago's Oriental Theatre (24 W Randolph) March 22 through April 10, 2016.

BroadwayWorld has confirmed that the First National Tour of MATILDA THE MUSICAL welcomes David Abeles in the role of Miss Trunchbull. He joins a company that includes Jennifer Blood (Miss Honey), Quinn Mattfeld (Mr. Wormwood), and Cassie Silva (Mrs. Wormwood), and three girls sharing the title role - Sarah McKinley Austin, Lily Brooks O'Briant, Savannah Grace Elmer.

Casting has been announced for the Memphis engagement of the First National Tour of MATILDA THE MUSICAL. Produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company and The Dodgers, the First National Tour of MATILDA THE MUSICAL will play The Orpheum Theatre in Memphis, TN January 12 - 17, 2016. Tickets are on sale now.

There are undoubtedly other productions worthy of merit in 2015 which I did not cover. This list is based only on what I saw and reviewed. (alphabetical listings; Equity, Equity-waiver & Non-Equity productions are mixed) (artists performing outside LA may be included in performance categories) No set, costume, or technical awards. I leave that to the bigger awards and to the expertise of those who really know those fields inside out.
