Steppenwolf Theatre Company celebrates more than four decades of groundbreaking ensemble theater with a night that has been reimagined to be as unique as the voices of Steppenwolf. It will be a spontaneous evening curated by Artistic Director Anna D. Shapiro and the Steppenwolf ensemble, filled with song and performances inspired by the art and artists of our past, present and future.

The Westside Theatre pulsed with hip hop music and glowed with the neon lights on stage. Did I come to the right place or was this a club? I settled into my seat, ready for this one act ride.

The Q Brothers' Othello: The Remix, presented by John Leguizamo, written, composed and directed by GQ and JQ and developed with Rick Boynton, will play its final performance on Sunday, January 15th, 2017.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) announces the cast and creative team for the world premiere of The Book of Joseph, a new play by award-winning playwright Karen Hartman chronicling three generations of the Hollander family in a sweeping story that spans history from occupied Poland to present-day America. Directed by CST Artistic Director Barbara Gaines and developed with Creative Producer Rick Boynton, The Book of Joseph debuts in the theater Upstairs at Chicago Shakespeare, January 29-March 5, 2017.

The Off-Broadway League is recognizing the needs of the less fortunate this holiday season - particularly under privileged children - by launching the annual OFF-BROADWAY TOY DRIVE taking place now through Wednesday, December 21st benefiting Safe Horizon, the largest non-profit victim services agency in the United States, touching the lives of more than 250,000 children, adults and families affected by crime and abuse throughout New York City each year.

There seems to only be one thing on every New Yorker's mind. The Cubs winning the World Series? Nope. Donald Trump becoming President? Nah. People only care about HAMILTON!  You can't blame them, though. Combining hip hop and musical theatre to tell the story of America's founding fathers is quite an interesting subject. But, they're not the only ones using hip hop at their show. 

To say that The Q Brothers put a new spin on OTHELLO might be too obvious a pun, but their fun and lively hip-hop retelling of Shakespeare's tragedy of racism and revenge, Othello: The Remix not only sets the Elizabeth characters to rap rhythms, but switches the whole story around to the present-day music industry.

The hip-hop continued with Othello: The Remix and it's opening night audience with DJ Supernova playing hits for the celebrants at Stage 48 and BroadwayWorld was there.

The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) and Allstate Insurance Company announced today that they will present the second 'Rising Star' youth award to Joshlyn Camille Lomax during the third-annual Fifth Star Awards on Wednesday, September 14 at 7pm-at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. The award celebrates the achievements of Chicago youth demonstrating promise and career aspirations in the arts. Lomax, a student at CPS' Chicago Academy for the Arts (ChiArts), was selected from a pool of nominees submitted by the public and several Chicago high school arts programs.
