Camille A. Brown, Gabrielle Lamb, Rashaun Mitchell & Silas Riener Set As City Center's 2014 Choreography Fellows

Choreographers Camille A. Brown, Gabrielle Lamb, and Rashaun Mitchell and Silas Riener, who will be working together, have been awarded New York City Center's 2014 Choreography Fellowships. The Fellowship supports choreographers at critical stages in their careers and reflects City Center's long history of nurturing dance makers, from George Balanchine to Christopher Wheeldon.

Fire Island Dance Festival 2013 Raises Record $394K for Dancers Responding to AIDS

Internationally recognized dance companies and fast-rising choreographers shared the picturesque stage of the 19th annual edition of Fire Island Dance Festival on July 19-21, raising a record $393,647 for Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. For the third year in a row the festival set a fundraising record, surpassing last year's all-time high of $374,260. In its 19 editions, Fire Island Dance Festival has raised $3.3 million for the most vulnerable among us, helping to ensure they receive life-saving medications and health care, nutritious meals, counseling and emergency financial assistance.

2012-2013 Bessie Award Nominees Announced; Ceremony Set for 10/7

The New York Dance and Performance Awards (The Bessies), NYC's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announced today the 40 nominees for the 2012-13 season. Announced at a press conference by members of The Bessies Selection Committee, the nominations (listed below) were made by an independent committee of 38 dance industry professionals. Produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, Bessie Award categories include Outstanding Production, Outstanding Performer, Outstanding Visual Design, Outstanding Composition or Sound Design and Outstanding Revived Work.

This weekend is the fabulous - Fire Island Dance Festival today, July 19 -Sunday the 21st featuring more than 40 dancers from world-class dance companies. Wildly entertaining humorist and actor Mo Rocca returns this summer for a second turn as host of Fire Island Dance Festival, the most-anticipated charity event to land on the shores of the Great South Bay. It is produced by and benefits Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The 19th edition includes a stunningly varied program spanning Broadway to ballet, performed outdoors at a landmark bay-front home. Tickets are still available.

New York City Center’s 2012-13 Choreography Fellowships Awarded To Brian Brooks, Beth Gill and Pontus Lidberg

Choreographers Brian Brooks, Beth Gill and Pontus Lidberg have been awarded New York City Center's 2012-13 Choreography Fellowships. The Fellowship program was launched in conjunction with the theater's reopening season in 2011-12 with a mission to support choreographers at critical stages in their careers. It reflects City Center's long history of nurturing dance makers from George Balanchine to Christopher Wheeldon.

Morphoses Premieres WITHIN (LABYRINTH WITHIN) at The Joyce Theater, Now thru 11/11

Morphoses, whose adventurous and spunky spirit has given it a singular place in the dance world, returns to The Joyce Theater tonight, November 7-11. The engagement features the New York premiere of the dance "Within (Labyrinth Within)" that includes the film "Labyrinth Within," both of which are by Swedish filmmaker and choreographer Pontus Lidberg, Morphoses' 2012 Resident Artistic Director.

The Vilcek Foundation Presents the Winner and Finalists of the Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise at Joyce SoHo, 11/15-18

The Vilcek Foundation will present Pivotal Works: The Vilcek Foundation Project, a four-night series of dance performances at Joyce SoHo from November 15-18, featuring the talents of the 2012 Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Dance winner and finalists. The purpose of the Prize is to recognize contributions by foreign-born dance professionals in the United States. Leading off this program on November 15 & 16 will be the prize finalists Fanny Ara (France), Thang Dao (Vietnam), Alice Gosti (Italy) and Pontus Lidberg (Sweden). Showcasing a variety of dance styles, these choreographers will demonstrate both the cultural and artistic diversity of the contemporary dance field across genres such as modern, flamenco and experimental. Following the finalists program will be a two-night engagement, on November 17 & 18, by the Creative Promise Prize winner, Ivory Coast-born choreographer Michel Kouakou.

Vilcek Foundation Names Winners of Vilcek Prize for the Arts

The Vilcek Foundation is pleased to name the 2012 winners of its Vilcek Prizes honoring the contributions of foreign-born artists and scientists in the United States. The Vilcek Prize for the Arts, this year awarded in the field of dance, is presented to Mikhail Baryshnikov, born in Latvia to Russian parents, for his body of distinguished work and his legacy of advancing the field of dance. The Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise is given to dancer and choreographer Michel Kouakou, originally of Ivory Coast, for his versatile and globally influenced performances and choreography.

BAC Announces Its Spring 2012 Season

The Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) ihas announced the spring 2012 performance season, which runs January 12 to June 17 and features a dynamic roster of international artists from the worlds of theater, dance, music, and film. The program includes several New York, U.S., and World Premieres, works developed in residence at BAC, and presentations made especially to be performed on BAC's stages.

New York City Center to Feature FALL FOR DANCE FESTIVAL, 10/27-11/2

New York City Center will reopen following the historic restoration and modernization of its landmarked building with its eighth annual Fall for Dance Festival, running October 27 - November 6, 2011. In keeping with its commitment to make dance accessible to everyone, all tickets will be $10, as they have been each year since the Festival's beginning. The two-week Festival will showcase 20 national and international companies and choreographers and will include company debuts and premieres in five programs (each program will be repeated once). Tickets will go on sale Sunday, October 2 at 11 a.m.
