Salty Brine to Debut New Cabaret Inspired by Neutral Milk Hotel

Salty Brine announces the premiere of a new cabaret, How Strange It Is, as the latest installment in his series, Salty Brine's Spectacular Living Record Collection Cabaret. Salty Brine's Spectacular Living Record Collection Cabaret, which performs every Wednesday as part of Brine's residency at The Red Room (85 E. 4th St.), explores a different iconic album each month in a live cabaret setting.  How Strange It Is, inspired by Neutral Milk Hotel's breakthrough album In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, will run on June 8, 15, 22 and 29 with an additional performance on Friday, June 24. On Wednesdays (June 8, 15, 22, 29) doors open at 7:30pm and shows begin at 8:00pm. On Friday, June 24, doors open at 7:00pm with the show beginning at 7:30pm.

Halley Feiffer to Discuss New Play 'A FUNNY THING HAPPENED...' at Drama Book Shop

The Drama Book Shop will welcome back playwright and actress Halley Feiffer for an intimate discussion about her craft and her new play, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Gynecologic Oncology Unit At Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Of New York City. The play is currently receiving its world premiere at MCC's Lucille Lortel Theatre.  Feiffer and Playwright and Drama Book Shop employee Steven Carl McCasland will discuss her work on Friday, May 27th at 5:00pm. The Invisible Dog to Present MINOR CHARACTER, 6/17-25

The Invisible Dog will present MINOR CHARACTER, (June 17-25) by Brooklyn based theater company New Saloon. In this kaleidoscopic adaptation of Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, a cast of 16 performers collage a century's worth of English translations - from the flowery 1916 version to Google Translate's profoundly nonsensical rendition - into one sprawling, intimate, quietly disastrous evening that culminates with an entirely new adaptation.

American Theater Company Announces 2016-17 Season

American Theater Company (ATC) proudly announces Season 32, led by its newly appointed Artistic Director Will Davis and continuing the theater's dedication to developing new works. The 2016-17 season kicks off this September with the world premiere of Dan Aibel's T., an exploration of the competitive ice skating saga between Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding, directed byMargot Bordelon, Sept. 23-Oct. 30, 2016. In the New Year, ATC presents Jaclyn Backhaus' Men On Boats, making its regional premiere at ATC Jan. 6-Feb. 12, 2017, under Will Davis' direction after he remounts his acclaimed New York production Off Broadway at Playwrights Horizons this summer. Next spring brings another world premiere at ATC, Basil Kreimendahl's We're Gonna Be Okay, March 17-April 23, 2017. The production is directed by Bonnie Metzgar and was originally developed at ATC in collaboration with The Araca Group during AracaWorks: Chicago 2015. The final production of ATC's 2016-17 Season is a reimagined classic, Pulitzer Prize winner Picnic by William Inge, under Davis' direction May 19-June 25, 2017. Season subscriptions are on sale now and range from $60-$150, with special pricing available for advance purchases before July 31, 2016. Playwright, Neuroscientist, RADIOLAB Host Set for MTC's INCOGNITO Panel Tonight

Manhattan Theatre Club, in partnership with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, announces the upcoming Sloan Panel Discussion on INCOGNITO, which will be held following tonight's May 17 performance of the play at MTC at New York City Center-Stage I (131 West 55th Street), and is open to anyone attending the evening's performance.

FRIEND ART Launches Second Stage Uptown Series Tonight

Second Stage Theatre will present the world premiere of Sofia Alvarez's FRIEND ART, directed by Portia Krieger, and the New York premiere of Lucy Teitler's ENGAGEMENTS as part of the company's fourteenth annual SECOND STAGE THEATRE UPTOWN SERIES this summer.

Creative Team Announced for WAR PAINT Starring Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole - Michael Korie, Scott Frankel and More; 6/28

Goodman Theatre announces Broadway stars John Dossett and Douglas Sills will join the cast of War Paint, a new musical starring two-time Tony Award winners Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole as Helena Rubinstein and Elizabeth Arden, respectively. Dossett will portray Tommy Lewis, Miss Arden's husband and chief marketing officer, and Sills will portray the ambitious Harry Fleming, Madame Rubinstein's clubby confidante and faithful ally.

Musical Theatre Guild Sets 21st Season

Musical Theatre Guild, the winner of the Los Angeles Drama Critic's Circle Margaret Harford Award for sustained excellence in the theatre, has announced an exciting quartet of shows to celebrate its twenty-first season of Broadway in Concert musicals.  The MTG 2016-2017 season includes: PROMISES, PROMISES; THE SPITFIRE GRILL; HALLELUJAH, BABY! and STATE FAIR.

19 Musical Theatre Writers Announced for This Summer's Rhinebeck Writers Retreat

Founding Executive Director Kathy Evans announced the 19 writers and 9 new musicals selected for this summer's Rhinebeck Writers Retreat residencies.  For nine consecutive weeks beginning June 26, each writing team will have a weeklong residency in Rhinebeck, New York to write their new musical. This year's writers include New York Drama Critics award winner Brian Crawley, Tony nominee Hunter Foster, 2016 Kleban award winner Daniel Goldstein, Susan Smith Blackburn finalist Michele Lowe, Arlen award winner Georgia Stitt, Fred Ebb award winner Adam Gwon, and New Dramatists Loewe Award winner Sarah Hammond. The 9 musicals were selected from among 95 applicants by a distinguished panel: Kent Nicholson of Playwrights Horizons, Donna Lynn Hilton of Goodspeed Musicals, Barbara Pasternack of Theatreworks USA, Steve Stettler of Weston Playhouse, Mara Isaacs of Octopus Theatricals, Drama Desk nominated composer Neil Bartram, and Robert Zukerman, former Director of Theatre at the New York State Council on the Arts.

Tony Awards Close-Up: King Jonathan Groff Will Be Back for June 12!
