Photo Coverage: Inside Theater for the New City's LOVE 'N COURAGE Benefit

Just last night, Theater for the New City paid tribute to the playwright and theater critic Mario Fratti (whose adaptation of the Federico Fellini film 8 ½ became the Broadway musical NINE) at the 11th annual LOVE 'N COURAGE benefit at the National Arts Club (15 Gramercy Park South) in New York City. An annual evening to benefit TNC's Emerging Playwrights Program, this year's LOVE 'N COURAGE event featured appearances by Liliane Montevecchi, Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham, two-time Tony winner Tammy Grimes accompanied by Alex Rybeck, singer Anna Bergman accompanied by William Hicks, Austin Pendleton, Katharine Cullison, cabaret star KT Sullivan, Inma Heredia, Human Kinetics Movement Arts, Rachel Klein Dance Company, Jocab Merrick Storms, the Yip Harburg Foundation Rainbow Troupe, and Michael-David Gordon and TNC's Street Theater Company. Phoebe Legere, the renowned singer, author, composer and multi-format artist, has written a full-length musical comedy, 'Shakespeare and Elizabeth I: The Reality Show.' The musical is about love, war, espionage and creative genius, and includes music written by Legere, who heads the cast of ten as Queen Elizabeth I. Director David Zen Mansley plays the Bard and trumpeter Rhys Tivey plays Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester, the Queen's noble heartthrob. Theater for the New City, 155 First Ave., will present this world premiere tonight, November 29 to December 15.

Theatre For The New City Halloween Ball Set for 10/31

THEATER FOR THE NEW CITY HOLDS ITS 37th ANNUAL VILLAGE HALLOWEEN COSTUME BALL OCTOBER 31. Underground stars perform each year in TNC's Halloween Cabarets. Guests will see, be seen and vie for costume prizes. Celebrants will sink fangs into Halloween delicacies in The Witches' Cauldron.

THE MAD LOVER IN ME IS THE CRAZY ARTIST IN YOU Set for Dixon Place, 7/10

The Mad Lover In Me Is The Crazy Artist In You, based on the real-life adventures of two eccentric expatriates who find love in New York City and transform their private lives into a public exhibit of mischief and art, will play Dixon Place on July 10. Directed by Zach Udko and performed by Filip Noterdaeme and Daniel Isengart. Featuring Penny Arcade, with special appearances by Phoebe Legere and Flotilla DeBarge.

The Pulitzer Prize and OBIE Award-winning Theatre for the New City (TNC) held its 10th Annual LOVE 'N' COURAGE benefit gala last night, February 25, 2013 at the National Arts Club (15 Gramercy Park South in Manhattan), this year honoring award-winning actor and playwright Charles Busch. Hosts for LOVE 'N' COURAGE were composer and singer Phoebe Legere and playwright/filmmaker Matt Morillo ('Maid of Honor'). The performers at this year's show included Mr. Busch, The Love Show, dancer/choreographer Kitty Lunn and Infinity Dance, juggler supreme John Grimaldi, Carol Freeman, Luba Mason, KT Sullivan, Tammy Grimes, Drew Pulver, Mark Marcante and Crystal Field. Theater for the New City's LOVE ‘N' COURAGE Gala to Honor Charles Busch, 2/25

The Pulitzer Prize and OBIE Award-winning Theatre for the New City (TNC) will hold its 10th Annual LOVE ‘N' COURAGE benefit gala on Monday, February 25, 2013 at the National Arts Club (15 Gramercy Park South in Manhattan), this year honoring award-winning actor and playwright Charles Busch, it has been announced by Crystal Field, co-founder and artistic director of Theater for the New City. The LOVE ‘N' COURAGE celebration will begin with cocktails at 6:30pm, with dinner following at 7:00pm, and performances at 8:00pm. Proceeds benefit the Emerging Playwrights' Program at Theater for the New City, located at 155 First Avenue in the East Village, where it remains one of the few remaining outposts for experimental and political theater in 21st century New York.
