Gidon Kremer And Kremerata Baltica Join Columbia Artists

Today, Columbia Artists announced that Gidon Kremer, the world-renowned violinist and founder of his eponymous chamber orchestra Kremerata Baltica, will join its roster. Columbia Artists will represent Kremer and Kremerata Baltica as General Management in North America, Asia, Australia and the United Kingdom.

National Sawdust Celebrates 80th Birthday Of Composer Joan Tower With Special Concert Featuring Women Composers

In the tradition of the Philip Glass @80 and John Corigliano @80 concerts, National Sawdust celebrates Grammy Award-winning American composer Joan Tower in honor of her 80th birthday on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 4:00 pm as Chris Grymes presents Joan Tower and Friends. This special concert - thoughtfully curated by Tower herself - will include compositions by Tower, Jennifer Higdon, Tania Leon, and Julia Wolfe, each work played by the original ensemble it was commissioned for.

Gustavo Dudamel To Receive 25th Annual Dorothy & Lillian Gish Prize

The Gish Prize Trust today announced that the inspired Music and Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Gustavo Dudamel, has been selected to receive the 25th annual Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize in recognition of his ongoing achievements as a conductor and an advocate for music education. Established in 1994 through the will of legendary stage and screen actress Lillian Gish, known as the First Lady of Cinema, the Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize is one of the most prestigious honors given to artists in the United States and bears one of the largest cash awards, currently valued at approximately $250,000.

Pacific Symphony Casts An Exciting Spell With THE WIZARD'S SPELLBOOK

Come learn all about the musical instruments that make up an orchestra with Pacific Symphony's "The Wizard's Spellbook" concert this Halloween season! The Symphony takes the stage Oct. 27 at 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, led by Assistant Conductor and Music Director of Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, Roger Kalia. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring their wands, broomsticks and cloaks as the orchestra will play the enchanting themes of John William's "Hedwig's Theme" from "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," Ponchielli's "Dance of the Hours," and the educational and fun "The Conductor's Spellbook," music and story by composer Paul Dooley and narrated by the opera baritone, David Stoneman.

Texas Performing Arts Presents BLACKSTAR At Bass Concert Hall

Cello soloist Maya Beiser joins composer/conductor Evan Ziporyn and his Ambient Orchestra to perform Bowie Symphonic: Blackstar, a startling and soaring new version of David Bowie's entire last album Blackstar for solo cello and orchestra. Arranged for Beiser by Ziporyn, who will also conduct Ambient Orchestra, Bowie Symphonic: Blackstar has been performed to capacity audiences in Boston, Barcelona, and New York City's Central Park SummerStage. For this performance, Ambient Orchestra is joined by musicians from Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

Carlos Miguel Prieto Is Musical America's 2019 Conductor Of The Year

Musical America today announced Carlos Miguel Prieto as 2019 Conductor of the Year. Prieto, 52, a native of Mexico and one of that nation's most important cultural ambassadors, has been praised for his charismatic conducting and colorful and dynamic interpretations. He is a frequent guest of some of the most important orchestras in the world and serves as music director of four orchestras: Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (since 2006), Orquesta Sinfonica Naciónal de Mexico (since 2007), Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería (since 2008) and The Orchestra of the Americas (since 2011).

The story bridges the dichotomy between the civilian perception of war and the conditions experienced by soldiers. It shows the reason why veterans often choose not to tell their war stories to anyone who has never been to war. As The Soldier says repeatedly: "I never talk about this." Bill Morrison's film illustrates the resulting loss of innocence and the gnawing fear brought about by living in danger.

New York Choral Society Commemorates Anniversary Of End Of WWI & Kristallnacht

Monday evening, November 12, 2018, 8 p.m., The New York Choral Society and Orchestra (NYCHORAL) will present its first program of the season, MY SHADOW AND MY LIGHT, under the baton of Music Director David Hayes at the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall. Investec Opera Holland Park Announces 2019 Season Casts And Dates

Manon Lescaut, sponsored by Viking Cruises, opens the season with the British lyric soprano Elizabeth Llewellyn in the title role. Named 'Best newcomer in opera' by The Telegraph in 2010 following her operatic debut as Mimi in La boheme at English National Opera, Llewellyn has gone from strength to strength on the international stage. She was last at OHP in 2017, as Magda in La rondine. The Welsh bass-baritone Paul Carey Jones makes his OHP debut as Lescaut. His recent career highlights include his Royal Opera House debut in The Nose and the Scottish premiere of Philip Glass's The Trial with Scottish Opera.

Long Beach Opera's Three Tales At The Ernest Borgnine Theater

Three Tales by Steve Reich, with visuals by Beryl Korot, will open the Long Beach Opera's 40th Anniversary Season, for two performances Saturday, November 3 at 6pm and Sunday, November 4 at 2:30pm at the Ernest Borgnine Theater, Scottish Rite Event Center, in Long Beach, CA.  The production is sung in English, and is conducted by Andreas Mitisek. Three Tales will serve as the centerpiece to Long Beach Opera's 40th anniversary Gala, which will take place following the performance on November 3rd.
