Photo Coverage: ROCK OF AGES Re-Opens at Helen Hayes!

After a breif hiatus, ROCK OF AGES re-opened at the Helen Hayes Theatre on Broadway last night, March 24. The five-time Tony Award nominated musical played its final performance at The Brooks Atkinson Theatre on Sunday, January 9, 2011. The production moved houses to make way for RAIN, which had to vacate it's home at the Neil Simon Theatre to accommodate Catch Me If You Can. Mayor Bloomberg to Spoof SPIDER-MAN?

According to the NY Times, Mayor Michael Bloomberg might soon join the ranks of the many comedians who have spoofed SPIDER-MAN in recent months. Bloomberg will reportedly work Spidey skits into the Inner Cirlce charity dinner that will take place on Saturday, March 26. Details on the performance are being kept confidential.

Tituss Burgess Hosts APAC's 10th Anniversary Gala 3/24

The Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) announces their Tenth Anniversary Season Gala honoring Hal Rosenbluth (Kaufman Astoria Studios) and Council Member Peter Vallone Jr. The Gala will feature a special performance entitled BEAUTIFUL MUSIC: 10 YEARS OF APAC, music directed by APAC Alum Jeffrey Campos and directed by APAC Artistic Director Tom Wojtunik.

Silverstein, Baldwin, et al. Elected NY Philharmonic Directors

Larry A. Silverstein, President and CEO of the Manhattan-based real estate development and investment firm Silverstein Properties, Inc., and a long-time supporter of the New York Philharmonic; Emmy Award-winning stage and screen actor Alec Baldwin, the host of the Philharmonic's weekly radio program, The New York Philharmonic This Week; Lawrence D. Ackman, Chairman of Ackman-Ziff Real Estate Group and a Philharmonic Patron; and Antonio Quintella, Chief Executive Officer of Credit Suisse's Americas region and a member of the Executive Board of Credit Suisse Group and Credit Suisse - the Philharmonic's Global Sponsor - have been elected tothe Board of Directors of the New York Philharmonic in the 2010-11 season. Mr. Silverstein was elected on September 29, 2010; Alec Baldwin and Lawrence Ackman on December 10, 2010; and Mr. Quintella on March 16, 2011.

Actress Helen Stenborg Passes Away at 86

Helen Stenborg, a Tony-nominated, Obie Award-winning actress and long-time spouse of the late Tony Award-winning actor Barnard Hughes, died Tuesday evening, March 22 at her Manhattan apartment. Her son Doug Hughes and daughter Laura Hughes were at her bedside. She was 86.

EXCLUSIVE: Can Julie Taymor Take Her SPIDER-MAN Script? Cast Member & Legal Expert Weigh In

BroadwayWorld.com first checked with a member of the show's cast, who told us that they felt that this was surely simply a negotiating ploy by Taymor (if it was indeed true), and that her torpedo-ing the show as a whole was highly unlikely, and presumably a last resort. They did tell us that if the script was pulled, that they believed that the production would face an immediate shutdown, as opposed to the one already planned for mid-April. We checked in with a legal expert, not affiliated with the production, for their take on reports that a Dramatists Guild Contract had not be signed and if Taymor could indeed pull her script from the production.

The Public Theater began previews on Tuesday, February 15 for TIMON OF ATHENS, the inaugural production of Public LAB SHAKESPEARE featuring Richard Thomas in the title role.
