Today, as a special corollary column to this weekend's extensive InDepth InterView with Tony-nominated stage and screen star Constantine Maroulis, we are shining a special spotlight on his career trajectory as he has risen up through the ranks to become one of the most successful alumni of AMERICAN IDOL from humble beginnings in the non-Equity tour of RENT. On Friday, I had the enviable privilege of talking to ROCK OF AGES Tony Award nominee and AMERICAN IDOL star Constantine Maroulis all about the new musical he is starring in at the Alley Theater in Houston as it eyes Broadway, THE TOXIC AVENGER. In addition to discussing all aspects of the science fiction-themed musical spoof and its creators, David Bryan and Joe DiPietro - of MEMPHIS fame - Maroulis and I also take a look back at his career onstage thus far and his essaying of roles in RENT, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, THE WEDDING SINGER and JACQUES BREL IS ALIVE AND WELL AND LIVING IN PARIS and ROCK OF AGES, as well as what we can expect from him in the future, near and far. Producers of the five-time Tony Award nominated hit musical ROCK OF AGES have announced that Genson Blimline will take over the role of "Lonny" role beginning today, Monday, December 19. Mitchell Jarvis, who has starred in ROCK OF AGES since it opened on Broadway in 2009 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, is taking a leave of absence from the show to take part in the Alley Theatre production of The Toxic Avenger in Houston, Texas. Jarvis is scheduled to return to Rock of Ages on February 20, 2012.

HBO received 18 Golden Globe nominations, the most of any television network this year, for the upcoming 69th annual Golden Globe Awards, which were announced today in Los Angeles. 'Mildred Pierce' led all HBO programming with 4 nominations, tied for the most of any TV series or program. The Golden Globe Awards will be presented Jan. 15 in Los Angeles.

New Line Cinema's film version of the smash hit Broadway musical 'Rock of Ages' is currently filming under the direction of Adam Shankman (HAIRSPRAY). Tom Cruise, who will star as Stacee Jaxx in the film, recently chatted with the LA Times about putiing on his dancing shoes for the film. Cruise told LAT: 'I had started dancing because I was inspired by my wife. She kept saying, 'You've got to do a musical sometime. Kate's a dancer, so she would say, 'Let's go to dance class,' and she would take us and that's how I kind of came up with the idea of Les Grossman doing hip-hop. And then to take it to this level with this? It was really fun.'

Emily Padgett - who rocked out as 'Sherrie' in during ROCK OF AGES run at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre - will return to take over the lead role on Monday, November 7, 2011.
