George Clooney's upcoming film adaptation of the off-Broadway play Farragut North, entitled Ides of March, starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Ryan Gosling, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood will open the Venice Film Festival on August 31. Manhattan Theatre Club has just announced that Tony and Emmy Award winner Cynthia Nixon will return to MTC to star in the Broadway premiere of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play WIT by Margaret Edson, directed by MTC's award-winning Artistic Director Lynne Meadow. The limited engagement of WIT will begin previews Thursday, January 5, 2012 and open Thursday, January 26, 2012 at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.
According to published reports,Tom Cruise will give a concert tonight in Miami in character as Stacee Jaxx to be filmed for the ROCK OF AGES film. Crusie will reportedly be singing Bon Jovi's 'Wanted, Dead or Alive' and Journey's 'Don't Stop Believing.' The concert is taking place at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens. A New Line Cinema casting notice for the crowd called for 80s enthusiasts over 16 dressed in their best 80s garb. Cruise's co-stars Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta will also perform alongside Cruise.

The nominations were released this morning for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards. Mad Men topped the list with 19 nominations, followed by Boardwalk Empire with 18, Modern Family with 17, Saturday Night Live with 16, Game of Thrones and 30 Rock with 13 and GLEE with 12. The Hollywood Reporter reveals today that SNL's Will Forte has joined the cast of the Rock of Ages film. The New York comedian and Celebrity Autobiography regular will be playing the part of news anchor Mitch Miley, specifically written for the film.
Stage Left Theatre announces the upcoming Chicago Premiere of Farragut North written by Beau Willimon and directed by Artistic Director Vance Smith. Farragut North is the first production of Stage Left's 30th season. Press opening is Thursday, September 7th at 8 PM, and the show runs through October 9th.

In the midst of finishing up Footloose and filming Rock of Ages in Miami, Julianne Hough found some time to support the American Humane Association at the VA Medical Center in Manhattan, giving a concert for patients with therapy dogs. While on hand, Hough helped launch the American Humane Association's voting campaign for the inaugural 'Hero Dog Awards.' CESAR Canine Cuisine will be making donations to the American Humane Association for each vote cast for a favorite dog hero at www.HeroDogAwards.org, helping to promote the use of therapy dogs to those in need.
Hough spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the project, making sure to also reiterate how much fun the cast and crew are having in Miami on the ROCK OF AGES set.

Deadline.com reports that the 'is he in or is he out' chatter surrounding Alec Baldwin's participation in the Rock of Ages film can be put to rest, as the actor is back on track to fulful the role of nightclub owner Dennis Dupree. Earlier this week, The star had been said to have withdrawn for unspecified personal reasons, however announcements from New Line Cinema and his appearance on set at the read through yesterday seemed to indicate otherwise. He is set to begin shooting on May 23.
