The Aspen Chamber Resort Association awarded Theatre Aspen a Business of the Year Award at today's 2013 Wintersköl Luncheon awards ceremony. The honor recognizes a non-profit organization that has developed a close partnership with the Roaring Fork Valley community as a means to achieve its mission. There are over six hundred non-profits in the Roaring Fork Valley.

The event will be held in conjunction with the Colorado theatre's quarterly board meeting, being held for the first time in New York City. The event will be held at Ars Nova, a non-profit theatre known for developing exciting new artists, and is by invitation only.

Last night, Thursday, September 20, legendary Broadway director and 21-time Tony Award winner Harold Prince served as Master of Ceremonies for the the fourth-annual "Broadway Salutes," an industry-wide celebration to honor those who make Broadway great. Theatre Aspen begins its 29th summer season with the Tony Award-winning musical comedy Avenue Q tonight, in the new Hurst Theatre, situated along the Rio Grande River. The theatre is unveiling a new lobby facility to complement the Hurst Theatre, which was erected last summer. Next up is the musical How I Became a Pirate, based on the beloved children's book by Melinda Long (July 10th - Aug 18th) and the film noir thriller The 39 Steps (July 25th - Aug 18th).

Actors' Equity Association (Equity), the Union which represents more than 49,000 working stage actors and stage managers nationwide, today announced the election results for the 8 officers and 17 National Council seats. Nick Wyman, Paige Price, Rebecca Kim Jordan, Ira Mont and Sandra Karas ran uncontested for the offices of President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Third Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer, respectively.

A long-standing opening night tradition on the Great White Way, the fabled Gypsy Robe is bestowed upon a veteran Broadway chorus member for each opening production. In what has now become a theatrical ritual, originating on Broadway 60 years ago, it was just presented to LEAP OF FAITH 'gypsy' Dennis Stowe.

Theatre Aspen is holding a private reading of the new musical Cross That River on Thursday, January 26th, in New York City. The musical is subtitled "a new musical about the black west" with a book by Allan & Pat Harris and Andrew Carl Wilk and music and lyrics by Allan Harris (based on an original story by Allan & Pat Harris).
