Disney's and Cameron Mackintosh's MARY POPPINS, a musical based on the stories of P.L. Travers and the Walt Disney film, with original music & lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman and book by Julian Fellowes, featuring new songs and additional music & lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, just opened at La Mirada Theatre and runs through June 21, 2015. Though we encourage each and every person on (and off) the island to go and support as much live theatre as humanly possible all the time, here are some shows to be on the look out for while galivanting around the Long Island Theatre scene, this summer!

Casting is now complete for Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's musical MARY POPPINS, set to open on Friday, April 24. Directed and designed by Tom Thayer, with choreography by Philadelphia choreographer Jenn Rose, lighting design by Noel Rennerfeldt, flying effects by ZFX, costumes by Premiere Clothing and Debby Dowlen, hats by Blanche's Place, and sound sequencing by The MT Pit, the cast will feature local youth in the roles of Michael and Jane. Nate Miller and Kylan Ritchie will play one set of children, while Riley Jenkins and Virginia Richardson will double during the run of the show.

OPA will present the high-energy, delightful 'Disney and Cameron MacKintosh's Mary Poppins' May 8 - 10 and May 15 - 17.

The SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre turns 31 years old this year and will celebrate with a 2015 summer season under the stars packed with concerts, musicals and outdoor movies. All performances will begin at 8 p.m.

If writer P.L. Travers, the notoriously protective creator of Mary Poppins, was even half so prickly as we have been led to believe she was - thanks in large part to the screenplay for Saving Mr. Banks, the film retelling of her experiences with Walt Disney, et al, over the film adaptation of her beloved work - it's very easy to imagine how she might cringe at the thought of high school students taking on the musical theater version of her timeless story. However, if she knew in advance that it was being produced by Nashville's Christ Presbyterian Academy, under the direction of an artist as exacting as Paula Flautt, we rather think Miss Travers would be pleased -and without reservation.

Next week, theater students at Nashville's Christ Presbyterian Academy (CPA) will hit the stage in one of childhood's most beloved stories, penned by P.L. Travers and adapted for the stage: Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins. This musical tale features a family in disrepair; a family in need of rescue that comes in an astonishing form.

Expect the winds to change as Signature Productions brings everyone's favorite practically perfect nanny to the stage for a 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' musical adventure. 'Mary Poppins' is set to fly over the rooftops of London and into the Summerlin Library and Performing Arts Center tonight, March 31 for a limited engagement of four weeks through April 25. Opening Night is Friday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m.

The Act Too Players (ATP), Williamson County's premier training program for all youths interested in the performing arts is introducing a new program called AT Pro (Act Too Pro) will be dedicated to providing live professional theatre by utilizing the talents of Act Too Players teachers, alumni, and current students to create an experience that inspires, challenges, and educates the children of Williamson County.

It's a Jolly Holiday with Mary! The beloved classic film turned musical hit lands on the NW Children's Theater stage with a heartwarming score, spoonfuls of imagination, and a flying nanny!

The Board of Directors along with Producing Artistic Director, David E. Leidholdt, have announced the 2015 Season of spectacular shows.

The most successful production in Fine Arts Center history is also its most ambitious.

This theatrical event promises to be more elaborate, more magical, and more supercalifragilistic than any other family fare this season. The FAC's production of 'Mary Poppins' will feature 22 actors, 90 costumes (all original, hand-made creations), a live orchestra and special effects so delightful, you'll believe a nanny can fly.
