CRY IT OUT Takes Comic, Moving, Honest Look at New Motherhood

The Echo Theater Company presents a hilarious and deeply moving "comedy with dark edges" that takes an honest look at the absurdities of being home with a baby, the power of female friendship, the dilemma of going back to work and the effect class has on parenthood in America. Lindsay Allbaugh directs the West Coast premiere of Cry It Out by Molly Smith Metzler for aJuly 14 opening at Atwater Village Theatre.

Composer Lisa Bielawa and Director Charles Otte Receive LA Emmy Nominations for VIREO

The Television Academy has announced 155 nominations in 47 categories for the 70th Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards. Composer Lisa Bielawa and director Charles Otte are nominees for their work on VIREO: The Spiritual Biography of a Witch's Accuser, the first episodic made-for-TV & online opera. Bielawa is nominated in the Creative Technical Crafts – Composer category and Otte's nomination is forOutstanding Director – Programming.

ROMEO AND JULIET Return to DC For Annual Free For All

Free For All, one of the capital's cherished annual traditions, will return this summer to Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC), offering two weeks of free performances of the Company's 2016 production of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. Directed by STC Associate Artistic Director Alan Paul, whose hit production of Camelot has extended through July 8 due to popular demand, the production will run at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F St NW) from August 21-September 2, providing more than 12,000 people the chance to see the play free of charge.

Los Angeles Production of VIOLET Extends Thru 6/30

The Actors Co-op Theatre Company's LA TIMES Critic's Choice and Ovation Recommended production of the Tony nominated musical VIOLET, with music by Jeanine Tesori, book and lyrics by Brian Crawley, based on the short story 'The Ugliest Pilgrim' by Doris Betts, directed by Richard Israel, produced by Thomas Chavira, with musical direction by Taylor Stephenson, The show runs through June 17. Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm; Sundays at 2:30 pm. There are no performances June 22, 23 and 24. Two additional shows have been added, Friday - June 29 at 8pm and Saturday - June 30 at 8:00 pm, extending the run through June 30, at the Actors Co-op Crossley Theatre, 1760 N. Gower Street, 90028 (on the campus of the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood) in Hollywood.

Berkeley Rep's OVATION Gala Raises $800,000

On Saturday evening, June 9, nearly 400 of the Bay Area's finest arts supporters gathered at The Ritz-Carlton San Francisco to celebrate Berkeley Rep, the Tony Award-winning theatre company known for its groundbreaking and challenging productions. Ovation: 50 Years and Glowing raised over $800,000 to support the Theatre's artistic and innovative efforts, including its educational programming and new play development.

PETER PAN Takes Flight At North Shore Music Theatre This Summer

Bill Hanney's award-winning North Shore Music Theatre (NSMT) continues the 2018 Musical Season with the family favorite musical, PETER PAN, set to take flight beginning on Tuesday, July 10 and playing through Sunday, July 22.

Hershey Felder's BEETHOVEN Brings Composer to Life

Hershey Felder returns to the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Artswith Beethoven, directed by Joel Zwick, from July 27 to August 12, 2018. This new production is based on the original Aus dem Schwarzspanierhausby Dr. Gerhard von Breuning with text by Felder and features some of Beethoven's greatest compositions from his keyboard works such as the "Emperor Concerto" to the 5thand 9thSymphonies, his keyboard sonatas, and chamber music. The Samantha F. Voxakis, Karen Racanelli and Erik Carstensen production is an extraordinary one-man musical play that brings the composer to life as it dramatizes the true story of a Viennese doctor who spent his boyhood by the Maestro's side as the son of Beethoven's best friend.

Ovation's Summer Programming Is Scorching Hot!

Ovation, America's only arts network, has an exciting programming lineup this summer. Exploring a wide range of artistic topics, the network will feature cooking with Jamie Oliver, beauty and culture with Rachel Hunter, drama with The Bletchley Circle and painting, photography and more with The Art Show. For subscribers of JOURNY, Ovation's AVOD travel service, both Jamie's American Road Trip and Rachel Hunter's Tour of Beauty season two will be available months before making their television premieres in the fall.

Debra Jo Rupp To Star In Berkshire Premiere Of THE CAKE

Barrington Stage Company (BSC), the award-winning theatre in the Berkshires, under the leadership of Artistic Director Julianne Boyd, presents the regional premiere of The Cake by Bekah Brunstetter (NBC's This Is Us). Previews begin June 21, with an official opening night on June 24, with performances through July 15 on the St. Germain Stage at the Sydelle and Lee Blatt Performing Arts Center (36 Linden Street).

An 11:11 Experience Presents FAMOUS A World Premiere Play

An 11:11 Experience has announced the world premiere of Famous, a new play written by Michael Leoni. Famous will begin previews on July 14 and opening is set for Friday, July 20, at 8pm. The run will continue through August 19 at The 11:11, a new performance space on Kings Road in the heart of West Hollywood.

The play is set in Frankie's cramped Hell's Kitchen apartment, here Frankie and Johnny have repaired after a satisfactory first date. But after satisfying their mutual desires, they're soon saddled with violently diverging ones. Frankie is ready to withdraw back into her comfortable cocoon of emotional reticence; she wants him out, five minutes ago. Johnny is ready to sing an aria, to dance an endless pas de deux, to buy a tract house. He certainly isn't ready to go home.

Ryan McCartan Heads Cast of MUTT HOUSE at Kirk Douglas Theatre

The world premiere of Mutt House will play at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City from July 15 through Aug. 5. Previews begin July 10.
