BWW Review: A 'Practical CATS' Performance at Proctors

The ’80s delivered endless iconic pop culture trends like leg warmers, neon, Walkmans, Whitney, and Madonna. Broadway in the ’80s also saw a unique culture shift as British mega musicals like LES MISERABLES and THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA began to take over the American stage. First on the scene, though, was CATS, which uniquely married the worlds of theater, ballet, spandex, and synthesized music in 1982. And although CATS has purrhaps only grown more hair-raising with age (not to mention enhanced audience expectations), the song-and-dance spectacle continues to mesmerize and mystify audiences more than 40 years after its inception.

The new album features tracks from Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Porgy & Bess, Rent, Annie, Sweeney Todd, the Lion King, Dear Evan Hansen, and Hamilton. One of the 14 songs on The Soul of Broadway – Deluxe Album is a very special duet of “What About Love” from The Color Purple with Keala Settle (This Is Me, The Greatest Showman).

BWW Review: HAMILTON Returns To Charlotte Post Pandemic at Belk Theatre

Read our critic's review. 'Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!' I heard myself screaming loudly in sync with the other 2,000 plus fans at the Belk Theatre, located in the heart of Uptown Charlotte, as we rendered a standing ovation to the incredible splendor of the Tony award-winning musical, Hamilton (winner of 11 Tony awards and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2016).

BWW Review: PRETTY WOMAN: THE MUSICAL at The Bushnell

I had the opportunity to see PRETTY WOMAN: THE MUSICAL, during its visit to The Bushnell in Hartford. Based on one of Hollywood’s most beloved 1990’s movies that launched America’s sweetheart, Julia Roberts, into stardom. Fans of the movie will be happy to see that the story hasn’t dramatically changed and includes all the fun, quotable lines (like, “Big Mistake. Huge!”) and unforgettable moments, like the spicy piano scene.

Bucks County Playhouse Opens 83rd Season With New Play AMERICAN JADE

When the award-winning actress and playwright, Jodi Long, took her first steps on the Broadway stage in Sidney Lumet's production of “Nowhere to Go But Up,” she was entering a professional world that ran through her family's bloodline. Her Vaudevillian parents had long trod the boards – in fact, as part of a popular song and dance act, they even appeared on the Ed Sullivan show in the 1950s.
