Urban Stages will kick off its 33rd season with the American Premiere of the award-winning drama Communion by celebrated Obie Award- winning, Canadian playwright Daniel MacIvor, who will direct the production.
Urban Stages celebrates its critically-acclaimed 32nd season at the Central Park Boathouse on Monday, May 23rd at 6:30pm. This year's annual gala will honor the renowned Karen Akers with Urban Stages Musical Artist Award presented by ten-time Tony Award winner Tommy Tune.
The Play Company's (PlayCo) 2015-16 Idea Lab features three curated events, November 18 & 28 and December 4, following performances of award-winning, German playwright Maria Milisavljevic's Abyss. The critically acclaimed U.S. premiere, directed by Maria Mileaf, runs through December 6 at Theaterlab, 357 West 36th Street. Writing about Abyss for The New York Times, Ben Brantley praised the 'poetic drama,' as 'genuinely artful...And it will take you places you didn't expect to go.' Speaking about the play's painfully current themes, he said it considers, 'some very topical questions of European national identities in a time of permeable and shifting borders.'
For the past seven years, a major source of Infinitheatre's new plays has been its annual Write-on-Q! Quebec playwriting competition, including recent success Progress! by Alyson Grant which played a sold out run at the Royal Victoria Hospital legacy site, and Oren Safdie's Unseamly, the New York Times critics' pick that just closed Off-Broadway. This year's jury, chaired by Pat Donnelly, with Gerry Lipnowski, Laurence Sellyn and Jennifer Moorehouse, is excited to announce the 2015 winners, whose plays will be read in The Pipeline.

Every year Infinitheatre looks for innovative, challenging and exciting new works by Quebec playwrights. Plays developed by Infinitheatre have been performed all over the island of Montreal and beyond, in Stratford Ontario, Toronto, British Columbia, in Ottawa at the NAC, New York, Tokyo, Cairo and Edinburgh.
HONKY by Greg Kalleres received its World Premiere at NYC's Award winning Theatre Company Urban Stages in the spring of 2013. The Urban Stages production, directed by Luke Harlan, received raves, and the play was subsequently remounted later that year. Due to its NY success, HONKY was produced at San Diego Rep and was filmed by PBS and OnStage in America and will receive a landmark presentation tomorrow, November 6, at 10PM (www.pbs.org/onstage-in-america/honky/home/).

WINTER RHYTHMS 2015 marks the seventh year that Urban Stages has brought noted musical artists to its stage during the holiday period. The mission of Winter Rhythms is to bring the talents of known and unknown singers, musicians, lyricists and composers to the attention of the New York theater community while performing at Urban Stages Theater. Winner of the 2015 Ruth Kurtzman Benefit Series MAC Award, WINTER RHYTHMS benefits Urban Stages' acclaimed Outreach Program, which brings more than 200 free "arts in education" presentations to libraries and schools throughout the five boroughs. This year's event features 20 shows and more than 100 artists.

Abyss, directed by Maria Mileaf, is a poetic thriller centered on the mysterious disappearance of a young woman. The play exemplifies PlayCo's unique commitment to premiering work from around the world to advance a dynamic, international experience of contemporary theater in New York.
