The Community College of Rhode Island Players will present the Pulitzer Prize-winning 'Crimes of the Heart' by Beth Henley from Feb. 28 to March 3 in the Bobby Hackett Theater at the Knight Campus in Warwick.
Being the theatre fan that I am, was beyond ecstatic when I read that the Eden Espinosa would be in the production. If I had a dollar for every time I watched the various performances of her belting in shows like Evita and Wicked then I could pay off my student loans. n the midst of a polar vortex this winter, MN Opera sends an early valentine filled with warmth to the Twin Cities in their production The Italian Straw Hat at the Ordway Center's Orchestra Hall. This comic Italian opera set in 1950's Paris plays similar to a French farce while sung in Italian and accompanied with English subtitles. Composed and written by Nino Rota and his wife Ernesta, the composer earned accolades for his film scores written for Federico Fellini, and "The Godfather," both the first and second versions. In this opera, Rota's mid-century comedy, a groom's horse eats an expensive straw hat on the morning of his wedding day while his father in law's patent leather shoes fit too tight. Sound extraordinary? Yes, all is wondrous mayhem as this Parisian wedding spins out of control and delightful events happen on stage throughout this enchanting opera.
Carrie Manolakos stars in the title role of this first-look benefit performance of IRENA, a new musical by Megan Cavallari (The Game, Hot Shoe Shuffle) and Kait Kerrigan (The Mad Ones, The Bad Years), directed by Jonah Platt (Dog Sees God) at Temple Emanuel Beverly Hills on January 26th (7pm) & 27th (1pm). Proceeds from the event will go toward the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust.1
Last year I posted an article on my website about the top 10 shows I was the most excited for that would be in the Twin Cities across the 2018-2019 season. Some of them premiered in 2018 like Mamma Mia at the Ordway and, of course, the traveling production of Hamilton. However, as I look back at the least, a large majority of them are in 2019 and I'm still just as excited to see these productions as I was last year when I posted about them. Conductor Jeannette Sorrell returns to The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra (SPCO), December 20-23, to conduct four sold-out performances of Handel's Messiah. Sorrell will conduct the SPCO and The Singers -Minnesota Choral Artists along with an international quartet of singers in the orchestra's annual holiday presentation of Handel's beloved oratorio. The final performance of the series - Sunday, December 23 - will be livestreamed by the SPCO.

IMG Artists, today's leading global performing arts management agency, announces a 36-city North American tour with multi-genre recording artist Damien Sneed. The Sphinx Medal of Excellence recipient will bring his brand of classical, jazz, and gospel music to “We Shall Overcome: A Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., featuring Damien Sneed.” The tour will kick off on Friday, January 11, 2019, at the Empire Center at The Egg in Albany, NY, and will make stops at concert halls and universities in the U.S. and Canada. The tour will conclude on March 3 at the Gallo Center for the Arts in Modesto, CA.
By popular demand, Fraser Entertainment Group's ongoing concert series An Evening of Classic Broadway will have a second performance this month at Los Angeles nightclub Rockwell Table and Stage. Jennifer Leigh Warren joins the line-up and Cabaret icon Andrea Marcovicci returns with other recent cast members. An Evening of Classic Broadway is nominated for BWW.com's Los Angeles Regional Award for Best Special Theatre Event. The show tune songfest will take place on Wednesday, December 19th at 8PM.
