Fountain and Deaf West Theaters Present Premiere of Signed CYRANO, 4/20

The Fountain Theatre and Deaf West Theatre present the world premiere of a modern day classic romance, a re-imagined signed/spoken version of "Cyrano de Bergerac." CYRANO, written by Fountain Theatre co-artistic director Stephen Sachs (Bakersfield Mist) and directed by Simon Levy, opens at The Fountain Theatre on April 28, with previews beginning April 20.

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum presents Maurizio Cattelan: All, the first retrospective of the internationally acclaimed artist's work, from November 4, 2011, to January 22, 2012. Hailed simultaneously as a provocateur, prankster, and tragic poet of our times, Maurizio Cattelan (b. 1960) has created some of the most unforgettable images in recent contemporary art. His source materials range widely, from popular culture, history, and organized religion to a meditation on the self that is at once humorous and profound.

On Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, the public will have an additional opportunity to view three popular exhibitions-the recently opened Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty; Guitar Heroes: Legendary Craftsmen from Italy to New York; and Rooms with a View: The Open Window in the 19th Century-at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Memorial Day is a Met Holiday Monday-one of the extra public viewing days that take place on the Mondays of major holiday weeks and weekends, when historically the Museum has been closed.

The first exhibition to focus on the motif of the open window as the sole subject or the main feature in pictures of interiors as captured by German, Danish, French, and Russian artists around 1810-20. Works in the exhibition range from two sepia drawings of about 1805-06 by Caspar David Friedrich to paintings of luminous empty rooms from the late 1840s by Adolph Menzel.

Born in St. Louis in 1901, Wallace Smith was a traditional painter who absorbed the visual language of artists like Pierre Bonnard, Henri Matisse, and Edward Hopper. Smith was fluent in many subjects including still-lifes, landscapes, interiors, and portraits. The artist's strength was in capturing psychological nuances, and the exhibit has been selected to illuminate this area of his work.
