Metroplitan Museum of Art Presents 'Rooms With a View' Exhibition, 4/5-7/4

The first exhibition to focus on the motif of the open window as the sole subject or the main feature in pictures of interiors as captured by German, Danish, French, and Russian artists around 1810-20. Works in the exhibition range from two sepia drawings of about 1805-06 by Caspar David Friedrich to paintings of luminous empty rooms from the late 1840s by Adolph Menzel.

Born in St. Louis in 1901, Wallace Smith was a traditional painter who absorbed the visual language of artists like Pierre Bonnard, Henri Matisse, and Edward Hopper. Smith was fluent in many subjects including still-lifes, landscapes, interiors, and portraits. The artist's strength was in capturing psychological nuances, and the exhibit has been selected to illuminate this area of his work.

THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL Begins Performances at The Quotidian Theatre, 4/16

Horton Foote's play, THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL, will begin performances at The Quotidian Theatre on April 16th. The theatre will continue with the production, despite the cancellation of The Tribute to the Life and Work of Horton Foote, which has been postponed until later this year.
