Young Jean Lee Returns to Soho Rep with LEAR; Premieres 1/7

Soho Rep, the eleven-time OBIE Award-winning, Off-Broadway theatre company, kicks off its 2009-2010 season with the highly anticipated World Premiere of LEAR, the most ambitious and visually opulent work to date by the celebrated playwright/director Young Jean Lee. Previews begin January 7th, 2010 prior to an official press opening of January 14th at Soho Rep.

Soho Rep Announces 2009-10 Season; Kicks Off With Young Jean Lee's LEAR 1/7/2010-1/31/2010

Off-Broadway's eleven-time Obie Award-winning Soho Rep (46 Walker Street) will present a diverse array of contemporary theater artists, beginning with Young Jean Lee's LEAR (January 7 - January 31, 2010); followed by Gregory Moss' ORANGE, HAT & GRACE (March 11 - April 4, 2010) directed by Soho Rep Artistic Director Sarah Benson; and concluding with Cynthia Hopkins' THE TRUTH: A TRAGEDY (May 6 - May 30); and will implement a new humanities programming initiative - FEED - for all main stage productions during the company's 2009-10 season, it has been announced by Soho Rep Artistic Director Sarah Benson.

KISS THIS: BURLESQUE ROCK CITY, Friday, August 21 at 11:30 PM Burlesque stars Anita Cookie, Clams Casino and emcee Neil O'Fortune, the producers of this summer's hit The Costello Show: A Burlesque Tribute to the Other Elvis, return to the Joe's Pub stage with something completely different: a night of burlesque and variety stars dedicated to the uniquely theatrical, the bombastically campy, the legendary pop metal superstars KISS! PENT UP: A REVENGE DANCE Comes To PS122 On 2/10-22

Bessie Award-winner and beloved downtown performer Okwui Okpokwasili spins a modern folktale. A daughter attempts to construct a coherent past out of her mother's cryptic signals and signifiers. Interweaving legacy and the loss of old tongues, rituals and original songs, and a good old attempt to get a grip, Pent Up sheds new light on traditional spells and third world brothels, and transforms every scratch & win ticket into a lucky one. Directed by Peter Born. Okwui Okpokwasili has been developing Pent-up with Peter Born through workshops and residencies with 651 ARTS, P.S. 122 and Centre National de la Danse from 2006-2007. She was a collaborator and performer in Achill in Modern Wars and Death of Nations: Heimwehen at the FFT in Dusseldorf, Germany. Most recently she performed in Annie Dorsen's Democracy in America at P.S. 122. A Bessie Award recipient for her work in the final part of Ralph Lemon's Geography Trilogy, 'Come Home Charley Patton', she continues to collaborate with Ralph Lemon. PRELUDE '08; Free Festival of New Works to Take Place Sept. 24-27

PRELUDE '08 -- the fifth annual FREE festival of new work by more than 20 of New York's most distinctive contemporary theatre artists including Richard Foreman, Big Art Group, NYC Players, Builders Association, Jenny Schwartz and NTUSA -- will be presented September 24 to 27 at the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center (MESTC) at The Graduate Center (365 Fifth Ave. at 34 St.) at The City University of New York in Manhattan.
