The William Inge Center for the Arts is pleased to announce playwright Octavio Solis will be the recipient of the 2019 Distinguished Achievement in the American Theater Award for his outstanding contributions to the national theater landscape. Solis will be presented the award at the 38th annual William Inge Theater Festival, the Official Theatre Festival of the State of Kansas, at Independence Community College, in Independence, Kansas. The festival will be held May 22-25, 2019.

California Shakespeare Theater announced today the return of its record-breaking hit play black odyssey for a special limited engagement, September 25 through October 7, 2018 at the Bruns Amphitheater. Marcus Gardley's music-filled journey through African-American folklore garnered box office records, critical acclaim, sold-out houses, and standing ovations during its initial August 2017 run.

One of the newest community theatres in the area is the Encore Theatre District, which is about to open its second season. Its first show is a one-night only reprise performance of a staged reading of LYDIA, featuring last year's cast.

Circle X Theatre Co. presents the world premiere of a site-specific theatrical event, HOLE IN THE SKY, written by Octavio Solis and directed by Kate Jopson (Fefu and Her Friends). Commissioned by Circle X Theatre Co., HOLE IN THE SKY will have a press opening on Friday, August 24 at 8pm and continue through Sunday, September 23 at Courtship Ranch, 11270 Dominica Ave. in Lake View Terrace.

Magic Theatre (Loretta Greco, Artistic Director and Jaimie Mayer, Managing Director) announced today the complete cast of Ashlin Halfnight's World Premiere The Resting Place, the first production of the 2018- 2019 season. The Resting Place will be directed by Jessica Holt. Previews begin onWednesday, October 10, 2018 at Magic Theatre's Fort Mason location, with a press opening on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are on-sale now.

California Shakespeare Theater (Cal Shakes) today announced the launch of the New Classics Initiative (NCI), and the support of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation with a $300,000 three-year grant. NCI has also garnered support from the Walter & Elise Haas Fund and the MCJ Amelior Foundation.

California Shakespeare Theater opens its 2018 Season with the World Premiere of Quixote Nuevo, a music-filled, contemporary retelling of Miguel de Cervantes' classic Spanish novel Don Quixote. Celebrated Latino playwright Octavio Solis takes us on a journey to the fictional modern-day border town of La Mancha, Texas, where an aging Don Quixote loses himself in stories of chivalrous escapades and embarks on a quest of imagination, adventure, and Tejano music. Quixote Nuevo, directed by acclaimed documentary playmaker KJ Sanchez making her Cal Shakes debut, will feature Emilio Delgado, best known for his long-running role as Luis on Sesame Street, in the title role, and a cast of Latinx actors from the Bay Area and beyond. The Colorado New Play Festival (CNPF) (Artistic Director Andrew Leynse) (formerly the Perry-Mansfield New Works Festival) is proud to announce the full lineup of plays and playwrights for the 2018 season. The 21st Annual Festival, to be held on June 10-16, 2018 in Steamboat Springs, CO, will develop five new works in partnership with the Actors Theatre of Louisville, Alley Theatre, Curious Theatre Company, Primary Stages, and Victory Gardens Theater.
