Athol Fugard's A LESSON FROM ALOES Comes to Finborough Theatre

The acclaimed South African/British actor, writer and director Janet Suzman directs the first London production in 35 years of Athol Fugard's A Lesson From Aloes at the multi-award-winning Finborough Theatre, running for a strictly limited four week season from Wednesday, 27 February to Saturday, 23 March 2019 (Press Nights: Tuesday, 5 March and Wednesday, 6 March 2019 at 7.30pm).

ENCUENTRO NYC Colombian Music Festival, founded by musicians Pablo Mayor and Anna Povich de Mayor is back with Encuentro Underground- Roots, Part 1: An exploration into the Spanish roots of Colombian music, Saturday, November 17, 7pm and 9pm.  Celebrating its 14th anniversary, the Festival has found a new home in ID Studio, one of NYC's newest and most vibrant artistic centers in the South Bronx (311 E. 140th St., two blocks from the 6 train). This concert is also part of Latin American Culture Week.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) and the Onassis Foundation USA announced today six free performances of THE GOSPEL AT COLONUS, the groundbreaking re-telling of Sophocles' classic, for a limited engagement, September 4-9 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. With book, original lyrics, and direction by Lee Breuer and original music, adapted lyrics, and music direction by Bob Telson, the iconic musical returns to New York City for the first time since 2004 to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the original production at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and to honor visionary director Lee Breuer for his lifetime of excellence and historic collaboration with The Public Theater.

These plays, which include Little Lives by Shara Feit, [Un]Earthed by Lavinia Roberts, Tokophobia by Jenny Bokoch Gillett, and And the Trees Fall Down by Viviana Prado-Nuñez, ask questions like 'What does it mean to create life?' and 'How do we prepare when the storm comes?'

On February 15, 2018 I was fortunate enough to be in the audience at the Joyce Theater to experience this season's production of Soledad Barrio and Noche Flamenca. Artistic director and founder (founded in 1993) of the company, Martin Santangelo, husband of the passionate and magnetic Flamenco dancer, Soledad Barrio (born in Madrid, Spain), is also the choreographer of this work along with company members. Barrio has a strong back and legs that along with her indomitable spirit create music, drama, and atmosphere.

The Public Theater begin previews of Black Light, starring Jomama Jones, the alter ego of Daniel Alexander Jones, on Monday, February 12 in Joe's Pub at The Public. Black Light is a moving, music-laden work - a revival of sorts - for turbulent times. Created by Jones, the show features original music by Jomama, Laura Jean Anderson, Bobby Halvorson, Dylan Meek and Josh Quat with music direction by Samora Abayomi Pinderhughes. Performances begin Monday, February 12 and run through Sunday, March 25, with an official press opening on Sunday, February 25.
